iPhone headphones won't pause songs but can raise/lower volume.

I have recently updated to 10.1 and noticed that my iPhone headphones no longer play/pause music when I press the middle button. The other buttons work though, I can raise and lower the volume. I tried it on my iPhone, so I know its not the headphones. I also checked the headphones port for debris. Any ideas on what I should do?

MacBook Pro 13 Inch, Mac OS X (10.6.2), iPhone 4 16GB, 5th Gen 80GB iPod

Problem solved here!

I just install the last update for MBP "EFI Firmware Update 2.0"

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1331

And all controls from headphone back to work. I suggest you install the update from the software update on your Mac. Post here the results.

Same problem here... I tried to reinstall iTunes 10.1 twice, tested with 2 pairs of headphones, but nothing... I really think it comes from iTunes update 10.1. Someone with formal information from Apple here ?

I was really used to controlling iTunes playback the same way I am controlling it on the iPhone and I thought it was really cool that Apple has allowed such consistency and interoperability between products. I hope that's a bug and not a decision.

I think this is a bug, because the iTunes got a strange behavior: with iTunes closed, plug the headset in MBP and press the middle button, and then removing the headset, and iTunes will starts automatically. That does not seem normal. Other strange behaviors occur in iTunes when music is playing and you unplug and plug the headset.

You mean you are connecting these headphones to your computer and they don't pause songs in iTunes on the computer?

I have the same problem, and I tried two different sets of headphones, so it is definitely not the headphones. I wonder if the feature was removed from 10.1?

Same problem here. The volume controls are working fine, but the middle button of the headphone (from iPhone 4) not work. I tried in another MAC with MAC OSX 10.6.4 and all functions work great.

Did you previously install any beta version of Mac OS X 10.6.5 ? I think it is related to 10.6.5 update. The computer with 10.6.4 had iTunes 10.1 or 10.0.1 or less ?

Not installed any beta of Mac OSX. I have not checked the version of iTunes in 10.6.4 MAC, but i think it was 10.0.1.

Ok would be great if you could try this with itunes 10.1 on 10.6.4 and test it again... I will downgrade my iTunes to 10.0 and test again. I will post the result here in a few minutes.

Downgraded iTunes to 10.0.1 on Mac OSX 10.6.5 and still doesn't work. I really think it is related to the OS update, but I won't downgrade to 10.6.4. I hope Apple will explain what happened.

I have upgraded the version of iTunes to 10.1 (in 10.6.4 MAC) and all the headphone controls work fine. The problem seems to be in the 10.6.5 upgrade.
