Apple Hardware Test Error Code 4MEM/1/40000000:210140

Recently my iMac 20" (Mac OS 10.5.8) has started giving me the grey "You must restart your computer" screen (in 4 languages). When I ran the disk utilities First Aid, all looked fine. When I ran Apple Hardware Test, I got the following two error codes:

Quick test: 4MEM/4/40000000:5dd38048
Extended test: 4MEM/1/40000000:210140

From another post I saw on this site, it looks to be a memory error, possibly the RAM. In accordance with the other post's advice, I reseated my RAM. The problem has not been resolved.

Could someone tell me what this issue could be? Do I have to replace my RAM or it there anything else I could do?

Thanks.

Hi Maughanster

Welcome to Apple Support Communities

That's a pretty sure sign that you have a bad module or modules.

If you have 2 1GB modules, install then one at a time and see if the iMac will startup from the good one?

I'm not sure exactly which year model 20" iMac you have, but if you click on the OWC link below you can find both replacement modules and upgrade kits for your iMac.
