I have an older PPC 1.8 GHz G5 (Logic 8 - 10.4.11) that I would like use as a node with my Mac mini (Logic 9.1.3 - SL). It worked well when my Mac mini was running Logic 8 but stays grey-ed out with Logic 9.1.3.
Is there a way update my Logic Node app on the G5 so that it can work with Logic 9?
Thanks for the reply (and the many others you have posted!).
I did COPY the Logic 9 Node app (Mac mini Application folder). I then copied that file to the G5 desktop, double clicked to open it and nothing happened. How does one INSTALL the Node app (as opposed to copying it)?
I think I have the answer....it seems Logic 9 Nodes can only work with Intel-only Macs. Does anyone have a work around? Is my G5 out of use as a Node in Logic 9?
Logic Node is still universal PPC/Intel in LP9 as far as I can see here. What happens when you launch logic node on the G5? Does it show up in the menu bar and the dock as running? If not, does the console log on the G5 show any suspicious entries in the system log?
Sounds correct about the Node version. Okay, what do think about this....
My (still works great) G5 is running 10.4.11 (Logic 8) and thus will not allow a Logic 9 install disk to install anything. Could I upgrade to 10.5 and try to install Logic 9 just to see if Node 9 app can be installed?
Again, I copied the 9 Node app from my Mac mini app folder to the G5 desktop Double clicked but nothing happened.
I appreciate all ideas, I just hope that the G5 can still be used in my current studio.
Copying the node app is sufficient. But not to the desktop. Copy it to the application folder. Before you do that quit the old logic node app and rename it to something like "logic node 8". Then launch the new node app. The new one can't run while the old one is running. If you have the old app in your auto start list then remove it.
First time on forums, so sorry for interrupting. I'm having the exact same issue. Nothing appears to be happening when double clicking on the new Logic Node from within the Applications folder on otherwise perfectly operating G5. Also set it to auto load on login. Very interested in hearing how to get this to work. THanks!
Hi Kendal, Bruce here. I checked at the studio and my Logic 9.02 installation DID instal Logic Node v9.02 into my apps folder. Actually, Logic 9.0 updated by Software Update to v 9.02, if that makes a difference.
I upgraded my G5 to 10.5.8, installed Logic 9 and updated to 9.0.2 (all works great! BTW).
Alas, the G5 is still not activated as a Node when I use my MBP or my Mac Mini (10.6.5 - 9.1.3).
I guess the only good news is the my G5 can handle Logic 9 (9.0.2) which can serve as a back up.
