iPhone 4 mic only not working in phone app!

Hello

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1. Today people on the other end in calls couldn't hear me. Thought it was the mic that was broken but when using other applications like skype or voice recorder it works perfectly. I have tried to use the speaker and headset but it doesn't work in calls also, so i think this is a software error. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Surprise everybody!!! I have finally found a real solution! This one should work for everyone who has suffered all of this time with this mic issue.

Can you hear me now?! I'm so sick of getting no response! Thanks Apple!

It has been over three years since the original poster posted his post,...a post to which we have all posted responding posts just to keep each other posted with possible solutions. Now hear this post!

Okay here goes,... you know on the bottom of the phone where you plug in the USB cable to charge? And there are the little screws on the each side??

Well,...check it out!...Get a teeeny tiny screwdriver and...

Actually, I have put together a series of steps to follow, organized so that everyone will understand, hopefully.

It's not that it's hard or anything.

I just have fat fingers!

(see steps listed below)

Step 1...

...for the love of everything that is good, I beg of you, BUY A NEW PHONE! PLEASE! IT'S BEEN ALMOST FOUR YEARS NOW! MOVE ON!! YOU WILL THANK YOURSELF LATER!!! I WILL THANK YOU LATER!! I HAVE MOVED ON! PLEASE! PLEASE? COULD YOU JUST BUY A NEW PHONE AND BE DONE WITH IT?! IF YOU ARE STILL UNDER CONTRACT AFTER ALL OF THESE YEARS, YOU SHOULD HIRE AN ATTORNEY...RIGHT AFTER YOU BUY A NEW PHONE!!! It does not have to be an iPhone! Buy whatever you want! Or,...take one of the free flip-phones or something...anything...just GET A NEW PHONE AND MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE!

Worked for me! Haven't had a problem with the mic ever since! Almost a year! Good luck! You can do it!

I had the same problem and the mic didn't work during calls and video recording. The problem solved easily by cleaning the upper mic next to the audio jack by a pin. It is working properly now.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4S. I brought it to the Vodafone shop and they said to resart it on iTunes (Back Up everything before). Havent yet tried it but just thought id let you know

Hi I have iPhone 4s when I receive or make a call people on the other side cant hear me, only if I put the phone call on speakerphone I would be able to talk with someone.

I been an apple user since 2006 and I loved how your technical service staff was so helpful, I called today 10 minutes ago, and the representative was not nice at all, I asked a few questions she told me they have to charge me $29 to talk to a tech support, just talk, if the issue wouldn't be solve, anyway the $29 are gone!.

She told me to go to the website, ok I asked her if she could guide me how, felt like she was trying to get rid of me!!. she was really rude.

Now I don't have idea what to do, I restore, I update, restart, but does someone on apple can call me and help no charge???
