10.6.5 server, SMB issues with office 2007 Windows 7 network permissions
small network with 8 stations running windows 7 PC ultimate 32-bit. all were fresh installed with BitDefender 2010 antivirus and MS office 2007. 4 brand new laptops + 3 new desktops + older P4 desktop on ethernet (the old one is visible as billing-pc)
most of them are via WIFI-n DLINK router, one via ethernet. on the network is also mac mini 2010 server running SMB for file sharing services. the server is not showing by default ether.
at some point i began to notice that not all computers are showing under the *"network" in windows explorer*.
i can easily ping all computers by IP or name without problems. i can always force open the computers shared files.
i can force browse any computer by: \pc-name just fine
later on i've discovered that *turning on the GUEST MODE mode in the SMB setting* made all those problems disappear.

*SMB issues:*
in the connection tab in the SMB a mysterious user Guest DENY_NONE or DENY_WRITE appear user. NOTE that currently the SMB guest mode is OFF.
How can i make the computer browsing work correctly ? in the W7 network i only see 3-4 of the windows computers. the *rest and the SERVER is invisible unless i force browse by: \\pc-name*
the shared folders are SMB protocol only with *strict locking* checked. (i tried having both strict & optlock checked - no difference)
users can access the shares fine, and have correct access permissions, but OCCASIONALLY they experience *error messages* when trying to *open or save* MS WORD 2007 file:
(don't have the exact wording, just from a memory)
• OPENING: the file is locked by another user and can be open as read only copy (but none else has the file open)
• SAVING: the file is currently in use
• SAVING: cannot save due to permission error
• the WORD will hand for up to few minutes or crash sometimes on opening or saving a file
i share a lot of issues with the others as below...
