Wifi ok, but no internet (linksys E3000)

I have problems connecting internet. The IPAD had good connecting to the router (LINKSYS E3000). Both are only 1 week old.
With the IPAD i can connect to NAS-server (Synthology). The router is on fixed ip address en two DNS addresses.
Other hardware works great: Windows Vista, Imac (wireless and lan), notebook wireless.

I have seen that more people have this problem. I tried changing setting in the router en rebooting router en IPAD. Only N and no G wifi, etc. Encryptie is wp2. When using the browser and going for the internet, a message come on: no internet.

What I find out, is that connecting to NAS is gives me a mobile-icon. I't seems to reconize the IPAD as mobile device. Looks normal, but can that be a problem for the Linksys?

Any suggestions? Is someone working with linksys e3000 and IPAD?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

Have you gone to Settings > Safari and turned autofill OFF? That often helps.

have you gone to Settings > WiFi Choose network and selected the name of your router/wireless network? If so, delete the network, then reselect it and enter all the information by hand. Watch the password carefully, the characters are displayed in plain text for a second or two before becoming dots.

Does the iPad show you the name of the network on Settings > WiFi bar?

Hi Ralph,

First of all: I find more discussion about the safari setting Autofill. But I can't find anything like that in the settings > Safari. Sure, it's in Dutch but notting like that. What should it do?

Furthermore everything you wrote, I tried. I have entered all IP adres, gateway and DNS. Allso I deleted network setting, rebooted IPAD, Rebooted E3000. etc.

I CAN access everything within the network, like the NAS and the LINKSYS. So the problem is not the wireless connection, but when I use Safari to access INTERNET (www.google.com) I get the message's "No INTERNET connection" When I use other PC, I do have Internet.

I use two DNS, exactly the same as on the PC's and Imac, like this, 111.111.111.111,222.222.222.222
I also tried one, but nothing seems to work.

I have tried various setting on the E3000, like pnpp disable etc. Nothing, no connection with internet.

It's like the connection to the E3000 does not go outside to cable of internet.
I have NO MAC restrictions or IP address restriction. The DHCP is also turned off, and the IPAD has a fixed IP number.

HELP!!!

The Safari AutoFill should be, assuming it is the same location in Dutch,

Settings > Safari > Autofill - second item in the list for Safari...should be:
Search Engine
AutoFill
Always Show Bookmarks Bar
Fraud Warning
and so on.

If you select AutoFill you can have Off or On...then Use Contact Info Off or On, My Info None > or enter if you have turned contact info on, the Names and Passwords Off or On, and finally Clear All.

Make sure the second item in the Safari list is turned off if it translates as AutoFill.

I actually use this same router with my iPad. I did not have to do anything to the routers config to get this to work. I even have my router set NOT to broadcast it's SSID, which others stated caused the iPad not to see the network.

What I would suggest is first telling the iPad to forget the network, then going into the "Settings" app >>----->> General >>------>> Reset >>------>> Reset Network Settings.

This should force the iPad to basically reset it's network settings to factory default.

Since this iPad is only a week old, what iOS version does it have on it?

My iPad came with iOS 3.2.1 when I got it, so I had to update to iOS 3.2.2 almost immediately when I plugged it into iTunes the first time.

Under your advanced wireless settings on the E3000 (only accessed via the browser interface for the router) make sure all your settings are set for the default or recommended settings from Cisco \ Linksys.

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your iPad and the E3000, I really hope that resetting the network settings on the iPad get it working for you.

It may seem trite, but, iOS 4.2 apparently will be addressing some Wi-Fi issues with the iPad. In fact that is why iOS 4.2 has not been released yet (rumored).

Thanks Ralph. I found the switch. In dutch it is called "formulieren". It was off the hole time. I changed it on and then off, but nothing.

Hi Richard, good to hear that it can work!!
I have already 3.2.2 on the IPAD.
I have tried everything, including DHCP on / off. I must tell you that the IP range I use is changed: 169.254.84.x
When I use DHCP I got following settings in IPAD:
IP-Adres 169.254.84.nnn
Subma 255.255.255.0
Router 169.254.84.250 -> which is correct E3000 IP-address
DNS aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa,bbb.bbb.bbb.bbb,169.254.84.250
(aaa and bbb are the same as in my router internet and ok. It also includes the router as DNS ?)
Zoekdomeinen (I don't know the Englisch translation) arnhem.xxx.nl (looks ok)

What special is, that when connecting the IPAD and connecting in Safari the router (webpage) I opened the status (last tab on the right) and then I get following window:

Routerinformatie: Looks ok
Internetconnecting: This is very strang. When looking this page with IPAD, I see NO IP adres, DNS gateway. When I open this page from PC, it is filled with good information.

I don't know what to do next.....

I now discovered that I can get Google page on the internet by using IP address directly. So something looks wrong with DNS, I think.
I have two DNS addresses I use on other computers and TV and the work great. This are the DNS with gives my Linksys Router. But on the Ipad when I use the same DNS: nothing. Also tried to put a the end the address of the router. No way.

It's frustating and because without Internet, it's of no use.
Perhapse I should return the Ipad.

Has someone suggestions? Please......

If I have read your posts properly, you are in fact entering a static IP address for this wireless network on all of your devices, as well as manually entering your DNS server settings on each device?

I never had to do this on my LAN / WLAN. I did set the DNS servers in the routers config, but then I used DHCP from the router on all of my devices on my LAN / WLAN. That is not to say that this should not work, just seems like a lot to manage in this case.

There is a setting on this router that isolates the different wireless APs but I am not sure if that is active by default.

I think you need to talk to Apple directly and maybe Cisco / Linksys. Since both are new devices, you should have no problem getting support from both companies.

Have you tried using this iPad on a different wireless network where they are using DHCP? Does it work on that network?

My only other idea here is that you have an IP address conflict between the iPad and some other device on you LAN / WLAN.

Entering manually is a little bit work, but normaly you do it once. 🙂
I also have put on DHCP, and the IPAD gets it's IP address and DNS beautifull, except NO CONNECTION on the INTERNET.

IP address conflict is also ruled out, I also tried different IP address.

Pffffffffffff....

I know not if this will help you at all, however, I took some time to go over my router config, as I have the same router as you.

I made screen shots of all the relevant settings screens in the routers config. I do not pretend to state that my config is best. I just know it works.

Thanks Richard for your effort !
I compared the settings, but the where not must diff.
On the first screen I included my DNS address, but it makes no difference.
When You look on your Ipad WIFI settiung, you have also:

DNS 1e dns, 2e dns, followed by router IP (in your case 192.168.1.1)
The next field, which is called in Dutch ZOEKDOMEINEN, I have a string from the internet provided: arnhem.chello.nl Do you have also something there?

What very wheird is, that when I acces the Linksys router on my Ipad and go to the last TAB Status, on the lower part normaly the internetconnection is filled in. Like internet IP adres and DNS etc.
Looking on my Ipad connected to the LINKSYS it is empty!!!
When I acces the Linksys router on PC or Imac, everthing is filled in. And there the internet workes.

I also noticed that on your LINKSYS you have firmware 1.0.01, I have 1.0.03. So there is one difference.

I will try today to change the LINKSYS E3000 with its older one WRT54G and then tied to connect the internet.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM:

IPAD CAN NOT HANDLE IP-ADDRESS OTHER THAN 192.169.x.x

I have changed my router but still it won't work. Then I connect to a public network: and yes I had internet.
I notice that the IP-range used was 192.168.x.x.
In mine netwerk I used 169.254.x.x.

I just changed the router address into 192.169.x.x. and now the IPAD can communicated with the INTERNET. I also can use fixed IP, as long it is in the range off 192.168.x.x.

Thanks for all your help. Hope that Apple will fixed this in future.

I am glad you found your solution. I suspect the answer is more nuanced then that even.

I went back and did some digging on the private IP address ranges. I also know that the iPad will work on other DHCP network ranges, like what you might find in a corporate or educational environment.

The one range that the iPad seems not to use, is the one range you where trying to use. According to what I have read the 169.254.0.0 - 169.254.255.255 range is for auto-self assigning of addresses. For instance, Windows uses this range when it cannot get proper information from a network (wired or wireless).

The three other proper private IP ranges are as follows, and should work on the iPad as well as any other DHCP enabled device.

From To CIDR Representation
10.0.0.0 10.255.255.255 10/8
172.16.0.0 172.31.255.255 172.16/12
192.168.0.0 192.168.255.255 192.168/16

TLDR: Done use the auto-configuration range as you private IP address range.
