best bluray drive for mac pro?

Anyone know if that player is the same one that MCE bundles?

There are more options on the market than before in terms of software that can play bluray disks. I couldn't find any software for a while to use to play disks. Now there are quite a few options in that regard. However, I've been happy with this external drive: http://amzn.to/xQ4ty8

I am having the same problem with Lion not recognizing my BDR-206. Does ANYBODY have a solution that doesn't involve Bootcamp? I don't have Windows on my machine so this is not an option that can work for me. I tried deleting com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist, but no success there. I desperately need a solution!

Did you update to the latest firmware via a Windows machine? The last Blu-ray drive I bought new had old firmware.

The other thing you might try is connect the SATA connection from the drive directly to one of the supplied connectors on the motherboard (logicboard). On some Mac Pros these are not always obvious and sometimes difficult to access.

Is there a way to update it using a computer with Windows? Even though it's housed in the mac?

It is already connected to a direct-to-motherboard SATA cable. When I installed it I pulled out one of my two superdrives and just used the cables from that. I actually don't believe I ever had to run a driver to use it either, it was pretty much install the hardware and it showed up ready to go in Snow Leopard instead of the superdrive I pulled out.

I downloaded and burned a firmware update to CD from Windows on my Mac running under Parallels.

I don't have Parallels either. Don't have any versions or emulators of Windows on this machine. All I have is a laptop with Windows, but I don't think there is anyway to run the installation onto the Mac from that machine. I tried using Crossover, but it didn't like the file. Looks like this just isn't going to work anymore...

Just picked one up the ASUS BW-12D1S-U external 3D Blu-ray writer. This burner worked just fine on my MacBookAir running OS-Lion. Need to check on OS-Snow Leopard as yet. This one costs under INR 10,000 in India. Reall value for money.

OWC basically has two BR-R drives: Pioneer and LG. I read that Mac Pro with Pioneer drive installed will not wake up from sleep. I got the LG drive. It works with Lion fine. The only problem is that the drive wakes up periodically if there is nothing in it. It means the computer will not sleep (or it will wake up) if the drive is empty. I keep a spare CD in the drive and the sleep feature works.

Is there a big difference in write speed between an internal blu-ray and an external USB blu-ray burner when using 6x media? Also I'm using a Pioneer BDR-207 internal at the moment. I can burn but can't watch. Tried multiple avenues with no success. Anyone else having this problem. If not then what drive are you using?

I installed Blu_ray Player software. I have been playing commercial Blu_ray Discs just fine on my Mac Pro. What I am having trouble with is building a movie on FCP X and then burning with FCP X Blu_Ray. It seems to burn fine but I cannot get it to play on my MCA internal burner. Your thoughts... JoeRay

Does anyone know how I can burn a blu-ray DVD on my Mac computor ?? I have downloaded Toast Titanium with the blu-ray plug-in but when i insert the disc to burn (a blue ray verbatim recordable disc) it ejects and says "please put in a recordable disc"... Any ideas??? Please help ASAP !!!!

What brand of Blu-ray burner do you have in your Mac Pro? Did you update the firmware on the burner?
