iPhone 4 Lost Carrier, No Service

I went to download an app off the app store (a free sudoku game) and the loading/downloading went strange (Not moving, icon was grey) so I restarted the phone. When it started back up, I had no service, and it didn't want to recognize my carrier. I can access the internet because of wifi, but I cant send or receive texts or phone calls. Any ideas? I've tried removing the SIM card (twice) restarting the phone (too many times to count) and now I'm about to reset it to factory settings. Any ideas at all?

Just experienced this same issue. After my battery died out and the phone started back up, suddenly my carrier disappeared (while I was waiting for a text message)

On home screen I realised where my carrier should be, had the text "SIM locked"

Under Settings>Phone>SIM PIN> I reentered the PIN belonging to my SIM card and everything worked just fine, right away!

Most factory SIM PINs are 0000 or 1111, if you've changed it over time, use your personal PIN.

If forgotten (3x wrong entry), use your PUK code (8 digits) to unlock your SIM card.

Hope this info helps 🙂

Suly4560 - when your phone turns off your sim is automatically locked (if you have a SIM pin). This is a very different issue :) I'm sure some people will find it useful though!

I am also having this problem guys! I'm using a SIM in Turkey, all my other SIMs work fine, just this one SIM. But it works in another phone full reception. I'm very confused.

I noticed the "phone not allowed" and got even more confused.

My phone has never been blocked. Surely it's not possible to be blocked on only one network??

I have no solution but restoring network settings did not work. I want to try downloading carrier settings on iTunes (updates come up sometimes). Does anyone know how to do this manually?? Do you think this might work?

Hey,

For me, it was because i was in Turkey. Turkey has a policy that any phone purchased from outside their country is automatically blocked (takes 1-10 days for them to notice you on the network and block you, so the Turkish SIM i bought was initially working)

Obviously once my travels moved on I got other SIM and had no problems. So for me it was the one carrier. Obvious this wasn't done by my phone but my IMEI had been blocked by the government/phone carrier.

I don't know how unique my case is but maybe it'll give you a different angle to look at it. My phone works fine now with plenty of SIMs. 🙂

So you moved on and your problem solved , so my phones problem has no solution because i live in TURKEY 😀

Yeah there is a goverment unit called BTK(data proccesing techonogies institution or sth.) which controls stolen , cloned or smuggled phones over IMEI numbers but i called them and they told me that my problem has nothing to do with them.

But thanks for the reply 🙂 Have a nice day!

Hy everyone. I have similiar problem. I live in Israel and I'm form Serbia and I use serbian sim card (so im in roaming) After my battery died, when i turned on my phone back again I had no signal and where the signal bar should be i had "no service". I can use wi-fi, and also when i turn off automatic carrier search and try to do it manually i get couple of carriers to choose from (since im in roaming) but when i click he starts searching and then "no service" thing again. I was just wandering is it possible that it's not working cause my carrier (from my country) turn off my number cause i didn't pay the bill? Or that has no thing to do with "no service" mssg

any answer would be appreciated
