Airport keeps "Looking For Networks"

Brand new (refurb) MBP 2.66 GHz core i7 17" running 10.6.3 as received.

Airport keeps switching from "On" to "Looking For Networks" and I don't know why; my old iBook G4 does not have this problem.

I'm using the Airport Snow Flying Saucer (aka Dual Ethernet).

The AirPort Admin Utility Snow 4-2-5 will not run on an Intel mac (is there a version which will work on my new mac ???)

So I had to run the app on my old computer and manually enter the MAC address of the MBP in order to allow it to join my WEP 128 bit password protected network.

According to iStumbler, the network signal strength is steady.

Signal strength is also good per MacStumbler running on the old machine right next to it.

Wondering if this refurb machine has a hardware problem?

A suggested answer is in this thread, but I'm waiting for followup on what else this will reset to defaults so I know what settings I might have to manually re-enter:

Airport keeps cycling between "ON" and "Looking for Networks."

Go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. Move all the files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac.
