Does anyone know if airplay allows you to push videos shot with the iPhone that are currently in the camera roll, or videos synced from iPhoto that are in different albums on the photos aPP?

Hey APPLE!! This is idiotic!! The only reason I even bought an Apple TV was so I could do instant streaming from personal iPhone 4 videos to my TV. What's the sense of only streaming movies and music that I ALREADY have on my Mac and synced with iTunes. I would save my iPhone battery and stream it from my Mac!
Agreed this is IDIOTIC!!! Why have video shooting capability in the iPhone 4 and a new AppleTV and not be able to Airplay the video. Very disappointing!
A couple of websites are reporting that the app-switcher technique should work ... which leads me to believe that maybe this was not intentional.
I have tried it multiple times, including after updating the Apple TV software and resetting my phone - and no luck. The screen shots and options all appear as intended, but the video will not transfer to the ATV - and the output option keeps defaulting back to the phone itself.
To make short story long - I'm guessing that this is a glitch.

I'm not so sure this is a glitch. TUAW has a video that Apple made demoing the new airplay feature. It shows using airplay for music, videos synced from itunes, photos, and photo slideshows, but doesn't even mention videos you record. Again, for the life of me I can't understand why you wouldn't include that when you do include photos.
if you import camera roll videos from iphoto to itunes they play just fine over airplay so it's infuriating you can't just do it from the iphone. The only reason I ordered my apple tv was to play videos recorded on my phone. A Complete Waste of Time to stream videos you already have on itunes from your phone.

What is the "app-switcher technique"?
When a video is playing on your iPhone, double-click the home button so that the app-switching bar is visible at the bottom. Once the app widgets appear, swipe left twice and you should see the Apple TV button.
However, even after pressing that button - I haven't been able to get the video to switch to ATV.

Disapointed would be a grose understatement!!!!
This was honestly the main reason why I bought my ATV in the first place! Well I got all the other features from ATV that I now love, but streaming my own recorded and edited videos from my iPhones to my 40" flatscreen was the one thing I really wanted!
I actually sat down and watched the keynote with SJ presenting Airplay with ATV... I was just SO sure streaming both photos and recorded videos from your iPhonen was promised... maybe it was me just being naive and full of wishfull thinkin', but actually... Jobs said "come home with a bunch of photos on your iPhone and watch a slideshow on your flatscreen"... he DIDN'T say recorded videos!!
But Cmon Apple... it just doesn't make any sense to leave your own videos out of this!!! No sense at ALL!!

I too just purchased an ATV on Saturday in preparation for the Airplay. Was very disappointed to not be able to stream my iPhone 4 vids. Also I have an extremely popular HP all-in-one printer (Photosmart 7250) that doesn't work over AirPrint. Pretty disappointing for me so far.
From reading elsewhere, it appears that this is not a glitch - looks like Apple made a decision not to support this functionality.
Must be a reason - but very disappointing if true.

Would love for Apple to explain why they did this.
I can't believe this omission by Apple. I hope we can get an explanation...
Just as disappointed as everyone else here. I tried importing videos from the camera roll into the iMovie app on my iPod touch (4G), but even playing in that app, there is no Airplay button available. Is there any way to transfer videos from the camera roll into the "Videos" directly on my iPod without going through iTunes? We shouldn't have to do these workarounds. What happened to "It just works"?
Wow this is seriously disappointing. This is literally the reason I bought the Apple TV and the only feature in OS 4.2 that I was waiting for. And after all this time to have even basic stuff not work like videos you shoot yourself (I mean seriously? There's rights issues with my own freaking videos Apple?) leaves me with little hope that the more esoteric stuff (ABC video app say) will ever work.
VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED APPLE.
