Airplay and videos in camera roll and photos app

Does anyone know if airplay allows you to push videos shot with the iPhone that are currently in the camera roll, or videos synced from iPhoto that are in different albums on the photos aPP?

Yeah it does tend to take a while to buffer the video. when airplaying a video you just took on your iphone 4 straight to the apple tv. I suspect this is because the video is uncompressed until you synch it to iTunes.

To see what I mean, transfer the video from your iphone into iPhoto and then back into iTunes, and then synch it back to your iphone and airplay it to your apple tv. That process compresses the video, so there is less data being streamed from your iphone to the apple tv.

If you just airplay directly from the iphone to your apple tv right after having taken it, the video is "raw" or uncompressed, and so it's a bigger file to stream. At least, I think that's how it works.

Anyway, I don't think there is really a workaround.

Using Verizon Iphone 4 running the most recent available (ios 4.2.7) and ATV2 (4.2.1) I'm not able to play video from my camera roll, as the airplay icon is not there at all. It is there for pics however. It's strange cause the same vids that have been synced to my Ipad 1 which is running 4.3.2 play just fine is this just an Iphone limitation? I have tried restarting both as well as: iphoto/album/camera roll. Help please

I downloaded Quickplay today and it works. However, a couple of things that are troublesome. First, it does not state until you click a video on your iPhone that it is going to compress it. Second, it is not clear whether or not the compression is altering the original file—a UI no-no without a prompt first—or producing an altered copy as a result. Until I'm certain about what is happening to my original files I simply will not run them through the app.

THis is the ad on apples website for apple tv

Show off your photos, videos, and more on your HDTV.

You have friends over and you want to share great photos or the perfect party mix that’s on your iPhone. Or you’re in the middle of an epic action movie on your iPad that could use a little more screen. That’s where AirPlay comes in. Just connect your device and Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network, and the AirPlay icon automatically appears. Then tap the AirPlay icon in a specific app — Photos, Videos, Music, Safari, or any AirPlay-enabled app — and everything streams to your HDTV via your Apple TV.1 It’s a simple way to play your stuff on the biggest screen and the best sound system in the house.

By reading this and the picture that shows on the website - (an iphone in front of the TV) it Looks to me like your iphone should stream your picture and videos to the TV. It does not and is most fustrating as you have to move them to an Computer or Ipad. Not clear and intentionally misleading
