AirPrint problem with iPhone 4 and HP ePrint B110

Hey there,
since I've installed iOS 4.2, I've tried to print something via the new AirPrint function. But unfortunately my iPhone says "No printer found". Is there any other preference I need to set? The printer is connected via W-LAN. Printing with both my Macs works fine.
Any ideas?

Greetings from germany

cormab,

Just making sure of a couple of things. First, your printer is an HP Photosmart B110A. Second, your device has network connectivity (the Apps on the Printer are able to load content). Third, your device says no updates available.

All three of these are true, correct?

And with the FW version you have AirPrint would not show up since its not included in that firmware.

Just trying to help,

camodad,

In my experience, if you are seeing the Printer but when you hit print nothing comes out, then for some reason the communication isn't working. Chances are you can solve this by:

1) Restarting your Router.
2) Restarting your Printer.
3) Restarting your iPhone.

Doing these three things will usually clear up the problem. Given that you have updated 2 of the three of them recently that giving everything a fresh starts usually solves things. If not post back and we'll see what we can do.

Don't know anything about the ePrint app, its unrelated to HP's ePrint Printers. For an App you can load on your phone, HP iPrint Photo works well and is free. If you want to get the ePrint App working I'd suggest the company that wrote the App. The support site for ePrint is:

For direct printing, you can use [HP iPrint Photo|http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hp-iprint-photo-3-0/id299531647?mt=8], currently available on the App store. For non-direct printing there are a couple of Apps mentioned in my [FAQ|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2658625&tstart=25] thread and elsewhere in these forums.

I have a hp b110a. Says it is up to date. The apps work also as I have printed of soduku. I can print wireless from my IMac and windows pc. The iPad with iOS 4.2.1 however cannot find the printer using AirPrint. Tried printing via email with iPad and that works. Tried hpiprint app but that also could not find printer. Anybody any idea how to get AirPrint working? Any help much appreciated as spent all day trying to print

Knockerbocker,

First, it sounds like your iPad is not on the same network as the Printer (and probably the iMac). However clearly your iPad has network connectivity since it can send email. Is you iPad currently connected via 3G or Wireless? If its on 3G, the fix is easy, put your iPad on the Wireless network. If its not on 3G, is it on the same Wireless network? If not, the problem is that your two Wireless networks aren't routing traffic to each other (they are not on the same subnet). In that case the fix can be a bit complicated. If they are on the same Wireless network, then the fix may be as simple as rebooting the router, the Printer, and the iPad. Sometimes that is all that is necessary to get things working. If that doesn't work, then it is probably a problem with your Wireless router. Post back what kind of Wireless router you have.

If you download the free ZeroConf Browser iApp you can use that to check check whether your iPad can see the printer and whether the printer is updated.

Running the ZeroConf iApp and hitting 'Internet Printing Protocol' you should see your printer listed. If it is not listed then you'll want to make sure that the iPad and the printer are on the same wi-fi network (watch out for guest networks) and make sure that your router isn't blocking multicast, Bonjour packets. (Some Qwest routers seem to be a problem in this area).

If your printer does show up in ZeroConf Browser then check the attributes listed for it. If 'URF' is not listed then the B110 still needs an update to get AirPrint capabilities.
