If after you update to 4.2 your iPod app seems to be devoid of media...

...I may have an odd solution.

After updating to 4.2, my iPod app was empty, but in iTunes all of my music, podcasts, and video appeared to still be on my iPhone. I disconnected my iPhone and restarted it. The iPod app was still empty. I reconnected it to my Mac and iTunes still showed the media. Then out of curiosity I selected a song on my iPhone in iTunes and hit play. The music started playing on my Mac and my iPhone lit up with the 'syncing' message for half a second. I reopened the iPod app on my iPhone and for a second or two it displayed the 'updating library' message. All of my media was there.

Just FYI.

Maybe it's my 2008 songs, 121 podcasts, 23 audiobooks, and a dozen or so movies that caused me to experience the same problem. A quick--and I do mean very quick--sync solved the problem. All was back and good to go.

I had the same problem on both my iphone 4 and iPad. I just did an additional sync of each and my media appeared again. In both cases, the sync was quite quick.

Yeah, a re-sync seems to be the actual trigger for a fix from the responses I see here. I just stumbled across it by playing a song by The Kinks.

Yeah, I had the same problem, except when the music finally showed up, my album artwork was all messed up. For example, a song would have the correct artwork in "album" viewing, but when I clicked it, it would show a random other artwork, or GET THIS, a genius playlist picture under mixes.

Same thing happened to me this morning after the update on my iPhone 4.

I cannot access my media after updating and unfortunately I'm not at home to try the resyncing "fix". It will be a sad quiet day at work without my music. 😟

*After the update, all media, music, video, movies may be invisible, but are still there.*
In my case, on the iPad the videos were gone. There was a cryptic message about "synchronisation" - i did not make any screen shot early enough.
I connected the iPad to an iTunes account, which was not responsible for the music or video. I did not synchronise music or video. I did not play musik or video.
After an additional synchronisation with iTunes, all media reappeared. Not only music, video too.
*After the update to 4.2, it seems wise to synchronise another time, then the media reappear.*
