IOS 4.2 - where did my notes go ?!??!

iPad. Upgraded from latest v3.x to 4.2;

I opened notes, and it just says "new note"

I have a LOT of notes, I use the heck out of them - help? Are they gone forever (in which case, head explodes), or am I missing something?

I did some Googling and found that as of iOS 4.1, OTA notes syncing is gone from pre-3rd-gen devices. ***? What are we supposed to do? iTunes only syncs one way: computer to iOS device.

So I guess I do have to downgrade.
