Upgrade to iOS 4.2 1013 error

Upgrading to iOS 4.2 but keeping getting unknown error 1013. This then takes the phone into Recovery Mode needing a Restore and Update. Have tried this a number of time (and followed the support page from Apple) but to no avail. Anyone else managed to resolve this?

iPhone 3GS, iOS 4

I solve my error 1013. I open Tinyumbre... and... advance tab, uncheck "Set Host to Cydia on Exit(If you need clean restore from Apple uncheck this box)" Click apply changes, closed Tinyumbrell...and open iTunes, upgraded and iTunes restore from my last backup.
Hope this help someone else, cause i was getting nuts with this error.

I cant be absolutely sure this is what happens but heres what I think goes on. Apple verifies the software when you install it, by removing the line in /etc/hosts itunes no longer knows where to go for verification. I think it then defaults to something else (maybe a hash of the file?) and can continue on. Again I'm not sure that this is what happens but its probably close. You can put that line back in afterwards so that nothing gets messed up in the future.

I just realized that not everyone is using a mac who has an iphone, these instructions are for a mac running osx. All the commands were to be run on the computer syncing with the iphone. For windows users the hosts file is located here:

%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\

Try using "notepad" or whatever its called on windows to modify the file and if the line that I said to erase is there then it should work, else; I dont know 😟
