WiFi/Internet Incredibly slow after iOS 4.2 Upgrade

My wifi is incredibly slow after I upgraded two of the three iPads in my home to iOS 4.2. The other iPad that has not been upgraded works fine. In a side by side test loading the same web page, the iOS 4.2 iPad takes 5x as long. Any ideas on why this would happen?

Sorry. Have not read all 86 pages but have upgraded to 4.3 and now WiFi is unusable. Safari loads 1/2 page then timeout. Same with all Internet applications. Going crazy here and going o'seas in a week. At this stage will have to leave this "brick" behind. Very upset.

Sorry to hear 4.3 has screwed up your wifi. Not point reading the 86 pages here as while it might be mildly amusing it will waste you a lot of time.

I guess you should try the basics things such as forgetting and resetting your network settings and probably a hard reset (power off and on) of your IPad. Someone else said try a restore on itunes. Do these and let us know how you get on?

Did you have issues with 4.2.x? Because a lot of the people that did on this forum were miguided into believing it was a router issue and fiddled a lot with their routers settings to try and fix it. For those that did, they'd probably want to go back to their default settings.

After my and others bad experience with 4.2.1, I'd highly recommend anyone contemplating upgrading to the latest IOS to backup their current IOS first so they can rollback. Apple doesnt let you do that, but there is a program called TinyUmbrella that well help you with that. But you have to use this program BEFORE updating IOS so it won't be any use to you right now.

I was about to say the same thing. This is where some people in this discussion did some real damage. Telling people to fiddle with their router settings usually did not help, and may have set up many iPad owners for more problems later on.

Because of this, many people might now have a bit of a mess on their hands getting their routers back to proper shape. Say "thank you" to Philly_Phan!

So...

If you did change your router settings for iOS 4.2.1, change the settings back again. If that still does not solve the problem, report back.

If all else fails, I'd ask Apple to exchange your iPad for a new one (I remain pretty convinced there was also a hardware issue with the original crop of iPads as well as bugs in iOS 4.2.1). Then again, I wonder how this strategy will work now that iPad 2 is out.

In any case, report back on your progress.

Thanks,
Matthew

Hi all. I haven't read all of the posts on here so don't know if an official fix has been provided. But after having this issue for 4 months I just read the post about changing my wifi security setting to wep 64 and my Internet speeds are now back at 8mbps on speedtest.net rather than 1.26mbps. I'll have to see if it works in the medium term but great work all. Thanks. I've givens tiscali so much grief. Can't believe that apple can be such bozos. I'm getting a n other tablet next time. Apple testing and support these days drop the ball far too often... A product only marketed for it's Internet connectivity really shouldn't stop accessing wifi after a software update User uploaded file

Anyway hope it works! User uploaded file

@Those people who found their 4.2.1 based problem with WiFi solved with 4.3 - have you been brave enough to install 4.3.1? And if yes, did it affect your WiFi performance in some way?

After the desaster with 4.2.1, I am very reluctant to update my iPad. Still I believe that any device should receive its updates, so this is kind of a dilemma and thus I am asking for your experiences.

Kind regards,
Frank

I've had intermittent wifi having to 'renew lease' frequently since after 3.x, it worked flawlessly until 4.x. 4.3 didn't fix. I've restored as suggested, still intermittent. I'm tempted to try 4.3.1 but having intermittent connection is better than none. I have a ps3, 2 rokus, wireless printer, laptop and 2 wifi enabled cells. None of them have issues on my network. Wireless G router, current firmware. What is wrong with mac that they can't figure this issue out???

This may sound really stupid but I was having the same problem. I just happened to look at my network and found that I was connecting to someones linksys crappy connection and not my own high speed connection. This all occurred after my upgrade to 4.3. Needless to say I felt like quite the idiot.
Hope this may help someone.

Well, upgraded to pOS 4.3.1. Sad to say nothing's changed. My iPad (I guess i gotta say v1 now) still loses it's wifi connection every 99999 seconds. This time cooresponds exactly to the WPA2 key rotation setting of my router.

Once every 27.5 hours is tollerable BUT STILL BROKEN!

Have you checked to make sure there isn't a firmware upgrade for your router?

Most iOS devices have no issues with WPA2 key rotation on most devices. I use an AirPort Extreme, but most third party routers seem to play fine with key rotation as well.

I have the same issue too, in iOS 4.3.1, my iPad can't find the WIFI hotspot where my iPhone with same iOS version work perfectly fine.

now just upgraded to iOS 4.3.2, it become better........ slightly, it can find my WIFI, finally, get connected, finally again, if and only if iPad is very close to my WIFI router, how close?! 50cm!!!! cm!!!!! god! The signal dropped terribly after it be away around 1m, and totally lose if more than this distance~ i really miss iOS 3.2 where it worked fine~

I going to send it back to apple shop, let see what they can do~ sigh~
