After installing on my iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1 I can't connect to my home Wi-Fi.

I have the same problem since the latest firmware update - my iPhone 3g can't find any wifi networks.

I've tested it at home on my unencrypted network, and at work - neither of them work.
When I try to scan for networks, using the network name, I get the message "Could not scan for wireless networks".

I've tried all the fixes suggested here, but no luck 😟

I want to be clear that my problem is not "unsubstantiated". iOS 4.2.1 breaks iPhone 3G WiFi. End. Of. Story.

And while updates are not "compulsory", they are nearly forced on the user by large dialog boxes that pop up every time you sync the phone with iTunes. I'm definitely made to feel like I'm supposed to update the phone by Apple.

That being said, I guess this is not the forum for software bugs, as stated by the Apple Shill, but just people having problems with a working iPhone not running iOS 4.2.1. However, I found the thread while trying to search for a solution to this issue, and many others have also. Maybe someone at Apple who can actually do something will happen to read this and find a fix and get it released.

My searches to date have failed to identify any independent and/or suitably qualified and respected authority that supports your claim that 4.2.1 has broken Wifi on the iPhone/iPad. I have an interest in this issue so it would be helpful if you would posted the name and www.address of the organisation to which you refer.

I am amazed in relation to your 2 para comments as I certainly don't find Apples methodology of delivery in respect to their products and services intimidating after all in the scheme of things we fortunately still have and dare I say the responsibility that comes having the final say.

In my experience if an Apple Genius cannot fix it then you may have a case.

Hi since this week i have a used iphone 3g 16gb with ios 4.2.1 jailbreak installed on it.
I don't know what's going on with the phone because when i put in my sim card i also don't get any cell reception at all.
The phone sees the sim card but i just get 1 bar out of 5 and no cell network name.
I tried to downgrade the phone ios to 3.1.2 and jailbreaking was no success.
I tried to get it to work on that and finally i upgraded it back again to 4.2.1.
Phone working again but no cell reception and no wifi.

Wifi is grey btw.

Has anyone get his phone back to an older firmware and get it working again incl wifi and cell? please let me know if you did and what i need for it?

The downgrade to 3.1.3 works perfectly but without fixing the wifi issue. So I returned to 4.1.
There is one more problem that is added to my device. The iphone from time to time looses the SIM card. The sign is «no sim card installed» while the card is still in it. The phenomenon is reduced by erasing my pin code. Now the sign appears 1 time in two days. It is a very bad device and its only six months years old. In fact this devise is a replacement of my first iphone that had a screen issue.
