A user has reported on YouTube that the WiFi issue may be related to WEP security being configured on the router. I am running 4.2.1 on iPhone 3G and 4, iPad without any WiFi issues. My router security is set to WPA-PSK(WiFi Protected Access Pre-Share Key). It would be helpful if someone could confirm that reconfiguring the Router to run WPA-PSK resolved their WiFi issue.
Hi richter22 I found your post interesting disconnecting the battery might suggest that the iPhone is never actually switched OFF even when doing a power + menu key shutdown. Perhaps another subscriber can confirm that disconnecting the battery is a requirement to totally power off the iPhone. Given that motherboards have a battery to maintain the time clock when the mains power is switched off perhaps the iPhone is similarly supported.
yes, that would be nice if someone else can try this, unfortunately I only have one device :P. I have recently replaced the battery, but I understand that some of you might be reluctant to do it, due to the risks.
I know for sure that this is the only method to completely switch off the phone, because even when you can't turn it on, there is a small charge keeping some information.
I recently purchased factory unlocked iP4 from singapore.
i connect my macbook 10.5.8 with an ethernet.
my iP4 worked fine for 2-3 days on turning on airport on my macbook via wifi.
but now it does recognizes the wifi network and connects to it with full signal but no internet access.
tried each and everything already suggested in the earlier posts.
Hi manang what is the Internet connected to a Router or the Macbook? If a router is it WiFi enabled if not then I am assuming that you want the Macbook to be the iP4 WiFi answering point set up to share its internet connection.
see i use a usb modem to connect to internet which is plugged directly to my macbook.
my iP4 was worked absolutely fine wen i switched on the internet sharing and airport feature.
i used 40 bit encypted WEP key password to share my macbook's internet over wifi with iP4.
Also tried 128 bit.
m sure there is sumthing wrong wid the macbook's setting.....n my iP4 is ok.
Hi manang.. It has been reported elsewhere [unconfirmed] that iPhone4 is not compatible with WEP. I run a iP3G 4 and iPad OS 4.2.1 with a router configured with WPA-PSK as the security key. It should also be noted that based on my own experience Keys are case sensitive and if you make a mistake during the input the error cannot be remedied with a backspace or [x] you must start again and input the key absolutely error free..
Hi dave_mc it has been reported elsewhere in this forum that a users WiFi issue was resolved by replacing the 3G battery with a new one. Apparently taking out the battery and waiting for 20 or so minutes [what was reported] then installing the new battery resolved WiFi when the iPhone was reassembled. Sounds drastic but if you have tried resetting everything perhaps at your own risk it might be worth consideration. Have a look at the video/s on YouTube. Another option is to give it to an Apple Genius to show you how to resolve. I believe that there is an Apple store in Brisbane located near Chermside 'if it is close by' You will need to ring or make an appointment over the internet you wont get any service if you just roll up. Good luck. If you have success please post the result. Ant..
thx again.....but i am still not able to surf internet on my iP4 via wifi.....getting full signals...registering with network ok but no internet access.
can someone please tell me how to reset airport/internet sharing settings on macbook and make new settings.
coz m sure that the issue is wid my macbook n not iP4.
Have you tried turning off Find My iPhone under Mobile Me? I was having a problem getting internet access through my WiFi, then I did this and now it works fine.
Both my wife and I have the iPhone 3G. We both updated to 4.1.2 on Monday - and after the update her phone is unable to see or connect to any Wi-Fi networks. It's like there aren't any close by. I've tried everything mentioned in the thread. I don't have any problems with mine, and both ours worked 100% before the update.
After 4.2.1 UPDATE my iphone 3GS will see my network but will not connect - no renew lease button - no DHCP information and you can't enter it manually - My wife has a 3g - update did not impact her - also Mac and Ipad connections OK with WIFI - someone said earlier that you have to connect to renew lease of forget network - can't do that - can't connect - never had this problem at all before 4.2 update - Enter password - Unable to join network "name" - everything is correct - just need a solution before I take this thing to the lake - also just curious - did the version name change and end with 'a' at the end - go to settings - general - about LOOK at the version name - the 3g and ipad have same version 8C148 THE only difference is the IPHONE 3gs have version 8C148a - Can someone explain this?
Again - not techno savvy - so I will not be able to explain the two different version numbers -
