As far as I am aware our consumer affairs regulator has not publicly reported any issues that it has with Apple other than warranty.

Configuration are the changes to any default settings based on your environment. For example you may change the router settings from channel 6 to channel 8 because to many routers in close proximity/radio range are using channel 6.

I believe this is a forum to share solutions to common configuration problems experienced by other users.

Given that Apple is the forum moderator I am sure that they are reading these posts.

I also am having problems connecting to any wifi network since I upgraded to 4.2.1. Before I upgraded from 4.0.1, I had absolutely no problems joining any wifi network. I always get the message 'unable to connect to network' even though there is no password required to join the network.

I just can't join any network at all!!

I have tried several times to restore network settings, done a reboot (holding power and menu button together) and turned my phone on/ off several times. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Tried that just now, didnt work :/

What happened to me now in the last day is, that my battery were down after 2-4 hours of not doing a lot other than listening to music, maybe playing an app or something. I thought that it might be a good idea to let it run out of battery once completley. Well, did that, charged it afterwards, but noticed that while charging it the phone died on me twice being on the plug. (that was after I left it recharge for at least 5 minutes) I found that weird.

Ok, anyways.

Didnt change anything on the configurations since I restored it freshly like a dozen times now. Don't think there was a lot of things I did prior to the problems.
Anyways, I'm working with the latest updates on my Iphone 3G.

Antz,
I started to think about the possibility of my battery failing on me just in this peculiar moment, being an coincidence. I mean I heard that the batteries only last 2-3 Years tops. If that is right, it might very well be, although the 2 years JUST passed two weeks ago.
I'm wondering if I should wait for the next update, and see if its a problem with the last update or if i should try something like the heat flow thing or putting it in the freezer. But I'm to scared of breaking it...

Anyways, its hard to believe that so many people suddenly have more or the less the same problems. But maybe it really is coincidence?

Regards.

Here is what I have found. When I am out and another wifi wants to connect, once I get home my wifi no longer automatically connects. I have to go to settings then network and reconnect the wifi using my passcode. It works for me again until I go out and another wifi tries to connect. It is very frustrating and only started after the new itunes/iphone update.

I have exactly the same problem. An iPhone 3G that i've just upgraded to 4.2.1. All off a sudden WiFi won't connect.

Well, that'd not quite true. If I stick in a static IP address and all of the other network config details (i.e. don't use DHCP) then it works. Turn it back to DHCP and boom, it can't aquire an address and no WiFi access again.

Also, if I change the WAN MTU on my router from 1500 to 1492 then DHCP works again and all is well.

Unfortunately I can't see many commercial WiFi folks giving me their internal network config and my own special static IP or the BA folk on the checkin desk at the aiport having a clue what I'm talking about when I ask them if they can change their WAN MTU from 1500 to 1492 so I can use their WiFi.

All my other wireless devices don't have this problem and neither did the phone before 4.2.1. Roll on 4.2 (if Apple even acknowledge this is a problem and plan to fix it).

I agree mate it must be the baseband thats why the restores are not working, I know the GPS is linked to baseband, and you need wifi on to establish an accurate GPS location so the 2 must be linked.

Hope Apple release a new update with a baseband fix shortly. Mines doing the same 4.0.1 everything working fine, did the update to 4.2.1 wifi dropped now have to stand within 1 meter of the router.

I also lost WiFi on my 3G iPhone lately. All other devices on my home network function correctly on WiFi: MacBook, iPads, iPods.... even my old HP laptop. Except... my IPhone 3G. I restored, etc. to all iTunes updates, etc. Still no home or away WiFi on my IPhone. It lost it right on the last update.

Any tips from Apple folks? Please help us out. Please!
