Best thing I can think of Andy is going in to wifi settings press the blue > sign and forget network. Reboot your Livebox and then try to reconnect. If that doesnt work try removing the security and see if it will connect then put the security back on and fingers crossed that should do it.

If not you can try going in to settings > General > reset and then try resetting network connections then try to reconnect once more.

Reboot the router before you do anything though as it may be having a moment.

The conclusion by those iPhone 3G owners that lost WiFi is simple, it is since the last update, possibly 4.2.1 some weeks ago, that many of us, but not all, lost the total use of WiFi. Yes, I also went through the following troubleshooting here in the support section: "iPhone and iPod touch: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections." All to no improvement.

Please Apple, support us on this. See all of the above posts by frustrated Apple iPhone 3G customers. Post a real solution here for us to use. If is not possible, give us some acknowledgement and customer support advice that we can understand.

I have search the internet and if 3G WiFi is an issue with 4.2.1 it is yet to attract any traction. Given the period of time that this update has been released one would have thought that if it was a problem that universally affected 3G then it would have been identified by those who watch and report on the industry especially Apples competition. iPhone is not the only component in the WiFi story and provided that they meet the 802.1 standard the issue may well fall somewhere else. If an Apple Genius cannot get your 3G WiFi running 4.2.1. to work then that is another matter and a reported confirmation of that event may help others similarly affected. Ant..

In Settings/Store 'Sign Out' power down the Phone. Also a good time to check that you have not exceeded your 3G data plan and also if their are any file size restrictions. Don't understand what you mean by partial WiFi access you have either got it or you have not or perhaps you have a configuration issue. Whilst the Phone is powered off probably a good idea to power off your WiFi router if it does not support your internet connection also power off the Modem leave it for about 3 minutes then power it back up Modem first then Router then the Phone check WiFi connectivity then in Settings/Store 'Sign In'. Well, that's not the only bug iPhone has so far. I own an iPhone 3G and ever since I updated the original software, it lost its ability to detect and connect to Wi-Fi networks. Many people told me that the problem was going to be fixed in further update releases, but it hasn't been solved yet. A few weeks ago, I updated to OS 4.2.1, hoping that it would do the job, but nothing happened, my iPhone 3G still cannot find any Wi-Fi network (whereas my computer and other devices do)... how disappointing.
Btw Apple, I've already tried fixing the problem by resetting the Network Settings on the phone, changing the security settings in the router, etc, and the problems doesn't go away.
Apple offers to "fix" my phone, but I'd have to pay for it, since the warranty is expired already. The funny thing is that the problem is not within the phone, since it was working really well before it had been updated.

Sorry adnixon but 7 pages of complaints states otherwise!

I also have a 3G IPhone and after the 4.2 update my wifi will not find the networks let alone join.

I have restored 6 times, reset network settings more times than I can remember and rebooted my own wifi router in which all other devices find it no problems (Wii, xbox 360) So your constant defence of 4.2 update is a little shallow, the net and this forum are riddled with people that have problems after the update.

Whilst Apple host this forum others have posted that it is not necessarily the place where you will get a response from Apple. There are other services provided by Apple if you are seeking Apple to respond.

I have found that to identify the point of failure one must systematically eliminate the issues. Preferably the starting point to resolve this issue is to given the problem to an Apple Genius.

Given that there is nothing in it for me to post in these pages I guess my shallow Defence is to encourage perhaps even help subscribers to think outside of the box when problem solving. And for you to simply know that at least one person with a 3G does not have a WiFi issue at 4.2.1 should have been helpful.

You have not confirmed that you have tested the phone at any other hotspot. Neither have you confirmed that all subscribers experiencing a WiFi issue just happen to have exactly the same same 3G version of the iPhone.

My guess is that the number of unknown persons who use these self help forums and resolve their issues who do not post may well lead others to believe that the problem cannot or has not been solved.

In relation to the weight that can be attributed to the 7 pages of complaints I too have read Daryl Huff. A much better statistic would be to weight the number of subscribers on the 7 pages against the number of 3G iPhones in circulation that have been upgraded to 4.2.1 and operating normally.

Perhaps this will help

I have exactly the same problems with my 3G, and I'm aware of quite a few others. It worked fine prior to upgrading the OS.

Why don't we get a little more systematic with our testing? I've created a spreadsheet to record some basic info in an effort to see if there are any common factors we can trace. The more info we can surface the more chance we have of getting a fix.

I got the phone info from +Settings > General > About+
