iOS 4.2.1 tethering gone.

Hi there, I have following issue:

Internet tethering options and internet tethering itself is gone on my iPhone 3G under iOS 4.2.1.

* iPhone is NOT Jailbroken, never, ever, was.
* iPhone is officially unlocked.
* My carrier officially supports tethering (in fact I PAY for it).
* It was there in iOS 4.1
* It was there in iPhone OS 3.x days

I remember Apple did the same in iOS 4.0 days.

Question - anyone have same syndroms? I allready know it's common but I wanted to ask on international boards.

Any Advice? Custom IPCC? Downgrade? JAILBREAK?

I'd like you to also send feedback to Apple about this issue, since it's big one IMHO - Apple DID advertise iPhone with tethering feature back in the day and now its SECOND TIME they "forget" to enable this option.

The same problem. Used tethering only last week, and now it's gone again 😟

For me it's been on and off since 3.0. Apparently Apple's turning this feature on and off according to AT&T's whims...This is really frustrating. I live in Norway with an unlocked phone (legit, not jailbroken), AT&T shouldn't have a say in whether or not I can tether my phone...

It must be carrier update driven. I'm on O2 in the UK and the option is still available for me, although I haven't paid for it so I haven't actually tried it.

You probably have your carrier configuration downloaded through iTunes. Unlocked phones used on carriers that don't have an agreement with Apple have to be configured manually on the phone.

Hope it will look good as a book stand? Jokes aside, submit it as a bug using the link in the OP, then we'll just have to hope that Apple cares enough about us to make things happen. The 3G didn't get the 17 new message sounds either, or AirPrint (oh noh! :P)... 😟

Same here I'm afraid.
I have a iPhone 3G - Officially unlocked and while not with an iPhone official carrier (eMobile / Meteor) have been able to manually enter the APN data settings all the way through 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.1, etc
That was until I updated yesterday to 4.2.1 - no tethering - Disappeared!
I would be interested in the response from Apple support.

Switzerland, Swisscom carrier - iPhone 3G
3.1.3 --> tethering
updated to 4.0 --> tethering present, but doesn't work.
updated to 4.2 --> tethering works
updated to 4.2.1 --> no tethering, option is gone from software.

I don't think this is a carrier thing, but built-in into the software. Or is there any country where tethering still works with an iPhone 3G and iOS 4.2.1 ?

sorry, correction.
It still is there, and works (Switzerland, Swisscom). It was just deactivated.
Settings -> General -> Network -> Internet Tethering -> Set to on.
Works.

Isn't working for me neither. Has always worked with 4.0 and 4.1. Legally unlocked iPhone 3G on blau.de (eplus) in Germany.

I have exactly the same problem.

iPhone 3G 16GB unlocked on OneCall operator in Norway.

No tethering. Had tethering on 4.1, but not on 4.2. If this doesn't get fixed soon I guess I will have to downgrade back to 4.1.

I am here in Germany with an offically unlocked iPhone 3G from t-mobile.

Nowadays I use a SIM Card from SIMYO, who offically allow tethering but woh do not have an offical carrier settings file (which *****, apple, it is so annoying to see these "call forwarding popups" but that is a different problem)

On 4.1 tethering was configurable and worked like a charm. With the update to 4.2.1 tethering is gone. Restoring did not help, with or without backup. Inserting my old t-mobile SIM card did not help either.

This is really nasty. I want it get fixed NOW!

Hi,

I'm having the same problem with BASE (E-Plus) in Germany. Tethering is allowed for me. Read about the issue on some other sites hand hope it's just a bug, not a restriction.

I am having this problem as well.

I have an iPhone 3G, unlocked by Apple. I was using tethering in iOS 4.1, just yesterday. Upgraded to iOS 4.2.1 and now all tethering is gone allong with the tethering options.
