iPhone 4 video not playing via AirPlay

I have videos recorded with my iPhone 4 that I would like to play directly out of the Photos app. I have updated every component (iPhone, latest Apple TV (mini), Apple network) to the latest available versions.

But I can only hear audio on my Apple TV, no video.

Playing videos and music from the iPod app works fine.

Is this a known limitation?

What's that mirroring icon? I don't see one on my iPhone 4

I was one of the masses that purchased the iPhone 4 around when in the first or second financial quarter when it was being released. I've been streaming video and audio, Youtube videos and personally made videos, from my iPhone 4 to my Apple TV 2 for at least a year. I just recently purchased an Apple TV 3 and was able to stream video and audio to it as well for the last few months.

As you all know, the iOS 6 upgrade came through, I used to be of the mindset that every Apple product software upgrade is something to look forward to as the continuously improve the user experience. One of the most important lifestyle influencing and convenient features that I had in my posession for a very long time has been the ability to stream video from my iPhone 4 to my Apple TV (2 or 3) and to have this taken away is really ******* me off.

I don't believe that this is an oversight as Apple is very aware of the user experience and that integration between devices is a very important criteria for business growth. Software updates go through a systems development lifecycle where the updates start out in development then go to quality assurance where rigorous testing occurs, then go to user acceptance testing (a very important step if Apple truely values the user experience), and then makes it to production as a formal release. The SDLC process is only a component of a larger group of processes that involve project management (probably Agile where product enhancements are made in small chunks delivered within 2 weeks to a month so that they are easy to figure out and deploy), and Change and Release/Deployment Management to control the risk to their products in the live environment (in our hands). Apple has lots of wealth, brilliant employees and the leverage that their tightly integrated products are owned by a lot of people.

What I'm trying to explain is that it's highly unlikely that was an oversight such this was possible. It's more likely a bold move at forcing people to upgrade their products to the latest hardware offered by Apple. It's insulting and I hope they issue a fix to the iPhone 4 really soon. I'm wondering if they realize how many people enjoy this feature that they have already purchased and now it is stolen from them.

I'm sure someone is going to chime in and say we bought the hardware but the software is the intellectual property of Apple. My answer to this would be that it doesn't matter who owns the software, if my user experience is negatively impacted then I will find another brand to bring it back.
