Text tone swoosh?

How do you disable the swooooooshhh sound when sending a text. It is sooooo annoying and was never there before. After 4.2 update I can not get it to go away,

Dell, iOS 4

Unfortunately your definition of inappropriate and mine and the serious texters are not the same. When my daughter sends me a text from a lecture at university/college is that inappropriate. Even if I think so, she doesn't. Or to her boyfriend from the dinner table? The point is people text all the time, day and night, and wherever they are and what ever they are doing and they want to be able to turn the noise off. And as we can see even if they are sitting at home alone they want to be noise free. The lack of sound and notification customisation on the Iphone is its single biggest weakness and this is one more example.

Well - not to argue - but I have had two 3G Iphones. My first one did not have it. My second one did not have it either until I updated the 4.0.2 or the latest version of software. Now all of a sudden I have the swoosh sound when I send a text. Every now and then I will have the swoosh noise for arriving text messages, which is even more annoying. so the iphone may have always had this feature - but something was keeping it from work consistantly. I just wish you could change these settings without applying a band aid like the mute button or jail breaking.....i could understand if it was about buying sounds -but you can't even change the swoosh sound, so not being able to turn it on/off doesn't make any sense.

I just had the same problem. Had a perfectly silent texting phone, then I downloaded the new software. I went to the apple store to get them to help me turn the swoosh off and make it not vibrate on incoming text, and they also told it always did this. NO IT DIDN'T!! And even if it did, it is ridiculous. If I wanted to make all that noise, I would just call and talk to someone. When I text it is because I'm in a situation where I need to be silent. I NEED to be able to turn this swoosh and vibration off, and shouldn't have to do it by turning my phone to silent and eliminating vibration. Then I would miss all my calls just because I want a silent text. Has anyone had any luck fixing this?

It's not broken, so it's unlikely anoyone has 'fixed' it. You have one option.......switch the phone to silent mode. You do have the option to turn off vibrate on text, so that shouldn't be an issue to begin with. And if you want to let Apple know you don't like this, you can write them at this URL: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I personally have no issue with the swoosh sound. For me, it's always been there from my original 3G to my current iP4.

I am ready to throw my phone at the wall I am so frustrated by the annoying whooshing sound it emits after I send a text message. Upon calling Apple Tech Support I learned that there is no control setting to fix or alter the sound made once a text is sent.
I want to individually control what happens when I receive a call, receive a text, and send a text. I have no idea why they are all interconnected. This is a basic phone necessity that has been completely overlooked by Apple.
Those of you who have this same problem I encourage you to post about it so the problem is addressed in the next update. For a short term fix just set the phone to vibrate, you lose the ability to hear calls, but gain sanity that would otherwise be lost putting up with the whoosh sound.

Maybe it's different over the pond but here in the UK the text send sound is hardly a "Swoooosh" - it's more of a "Dweeep" (am I really typing this!?) It really is quite an insignificant sound which in noisy situations you don't evn hear. The email sound sound on the other hand.....now that's a "Swoooosh"! Although you can turn that off.

It's irrelevant what you think about the merits of the issue or that it doesn't bother you. It bothers some people. This is a forum, where people are allowed to discuss any Apple matter.

Staggers me how some people will bother to reply to a thread to tell everyone to go discuss something else!

Anyway, it's clear some people didn't have this noise before the update in question, and some people always had it. Why that is, I have no idea, but nobody is making up stuff just to back their argument.

I'd rather I had the option to not hear the noise, but there you go.

Seems to me that there are so many varied "issues" going on with iPhones, and everyone is having different experiences world-wide. Some have over-heating and too-quickly draining batteries, some have troubles with Facetime not working right, some have difficulties dealing with Wi-Fi, or synching... others are having no problems at all. So, is it safe to say that the send text "swoooosh" has always been there but for some people, before the new OS upgrade or phone upgrade, they were having trouble with their send text sound not being there, but they just didn't know it (and preferred it that way anyway??). 😉

Maybe!

Not sure what the reasons, but the sound definately wasn't there for me. It's always been there for my girlfriend and her iPhone, so haven't a clue why I'd never had it. Strange.

It's not a massive deal and i'm starting to not even notice it, to be honest. I just think it's strange for a phone with so many options to force you to hear a tone.
