I have the icon, and an amp connected to my airport express. I can stream music flawlessly from iTunes on my uMacbook to the AE+Amp. Yet with iOS 4.2 I get no sound.
I have just done a complete wipe on my iPad, and tried it then but it's the same. I've run out of ideas.Custom built dual core, Windows Vista

Playing music from PC via airplay: works perfectly
Playing music from PC via airplay, controlled by Remote on Ipad: works perfectly

Playing music from Ipod using airplay: works perfectly
Playing music from Ipad using airplay: does NOT work
I hear music for less than 1 second, then nothing. If I select local ipad speakers and then airplay again, I hear another second of music, follwoed by silence.
All devices have been upgraded on the latest firmware, and all devices have been reset, but no joy - I have run out of things to try...iPad & Ipad touch, iOS 4, Airport Express
Currently Being ModeratedNov 24, 2010 9:35 AM (in response to ieverything)My express was purchased in August 2009 so not really old. I had considered that a firmware update could fix the issue, but I haven't seen one in absolutely ages.
The only other thing I am considering trying is digging out an old USB Router from my junk cupboard and trying that in place of my Netgear DG834N, which my AE connects to.
supreme commander of wireless pretty much sums up my probs in a nutshell.

Currently Being ModeratedNov 24, 2010 9:59 AM (in response to Richard VDB)I have the same problem. I want to stream from my iPad to my Airport Express. The iPad sees the AE, but there is no sound coming from the speakers attached to the AE. I go to my iTunes on my MacPro and music streams beautifully, but no success with the iPad.
Seems that other folks have the same problem.
The AE I'm streaming to is two months old.Mac Pro 8 Core 2.26, Mac OS X (10.6.1)
Currently Being ModeratedNov 24, 2010 10:23 AM (in response to ieverything)I did a factory reset on the express that was not working by holding in the button on the express. Once I re configured it to the same settings I had previously everything just worked. If anyone is having a problem with the express I suggest a hard factory reset as just reloading FW did not work for me but the reset did!!!

Currently Being ModeratedNov 26, 2010 5:33 AM (in response to Verne Mattson)Hi Verne, would you know if it is essential to include the AE in my router network? Is it possible to stream music to an AE when you are only connected to the AEwifi network?IMac & iPad, iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedNov 26, 2010 7:55 AM (in response to Richard VDB)Hi Richard -
If I understand your question correctly, yes, your AE just has to be on your wireless network and not hard wired to your router. I have an airport extreme as my access point, and two airport expresses. One Express is used to serve my stereo, and one is for my printer.Mac Pro 8 Core 2.26, Mac OS X (10.6.1)
Currently Being ModeratedNov 26, 2010 12:47 PM (in response to Verne Mattson)Hi Verne,
I used to have a Speedtouch router to which I had connected my Airport Extreme, Time Capsule and Airport Express (wireless). Because of a new contract with my provider I had to replace my Speedtouch with a Fritzbox. Unfortunately, Apple and Fritzbox do not support eachother....
So now I have my Time Capsuled wired to my IMac and try to get AirPlay working through my AE, separately.
I begin to understand that this is a no go area...
Thanks, RichardIMac & iPad, iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedNov 28, 2010 10:29 AM (in response to ieverything)A factory reset of my Airport Express 802.11g/b running firmware 6.3 fixed the issue I was seeing where audio would stream from my iPad through the Airport Express for a few minutes and then drop the connection.Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Currently Being ModeratedNov 28, 2010 2:23 PM (in response to Chris70)Well, I got Airplay to work. All it took was a simple power cycle of the AE.
I unplugged the Airport Express, waited about 30 seconds, plugged it back in. Once the green light came on, the Airplay functioned perfectly! Very cool. Should've done that at the start...Mac Pro 8 Core 2.26, Mac OS X (10.6.5)
Currently Being ModeratedNov 28, 2010 7:26 PM (in response to supreme commander of wireless)same issue. Can't stream audio from iPad using Airplay, to any device (AE or ATV2)
on top of this, if I attempt to stream audio from iPad to ATV2 or AE, the wifi on my ipad freezes up and will not work again until iPad is rebooted.
There seems to be an issue with AirPlay for audio from iPad only.
Works fine from iPhone.
Streaming video from iPad works well too (with audio)iMac late 2010, Mac OS X (10.6.5)
