No video output from AppleTV after update.

I updated AppleTV the other day and all seemed to work fine until I switched it off yesterday and went to turn it back on today to watch something.

Basically the AppleTV is starting up OK but not outputting anything on the screen. I have tried different HDMI cables and a different TV (both newish LCD / LED tv's) but nothing is coming out.

My iPad is picking up the AppleTV and allows me to remote play to it but the TV's are picking up no signal at all and nothing is shown on screen.

Apart from pulling the power, is there any way or resetting this thing if I can't see anything on screen?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5), iPhone OS 4.2.1

I have the same problem. Apple TV worked fine for the couple months I had it before the upgrade. Now, since upgrading to 4.2.1, I have to unplug it and turn off the TV anytime I want to use it. I returned the Apple TV for a new one, which worked fine until I upgraded the software again. This is ridiculous. Obviously this is a firmware issue with Apple. Has nothing to do with my TV or HDMI cable (which was purchased from the Apple store). Lots of people seem to have this problem. How soon until a new upgrade comes out to fix this? I want to start enjoying Apple TV again, it is a paper weight for now. Stop ignoring the problem and give us a solution!

I'm piling on here in the hope that Apple sees this problem and acts on it.

I've got an Apple TV v2 and am seeing the exact same problem on a Toshiba LCD TV. My ATV worked perfectly until I did the recent firmware upgrade, now the normal pattern is zero video or audio on startup, and if I can get a picture it blacks out after a few minutes, as described earlier.

Bouncing the device's power doesn't seem to do it. I'm hoping a firmware upgrade is coming soon that will fix this problem more than a few people are having.

I also am suddenly getting no video signal from my Apple TV to my Westinghouse TV via HDMI cable. I have no idea if there was a firmware update-- I don't recall updating unless it happened automatically. But since I can't communicate with the Apple TV or see any picture, I can't even figure out what is wrong.

I've tried changing HDMI cables, trying different HDMI ports on the TV, rebooting the Apple TV-- nothing. No video. What is up???

I also have a $99 (+tax) "Black Box" which will not display video on my Sony Bravia TV. It's bad enough to have a product that I can't use, but it is even worse to be told that I cannot get any support from the manufacturer (Apple) because my product is more than 90 days old. Come on Apple, let's fix the problem and share the solution with your loyal customers by all available means.

Just popping back to provide a quick update to this thread I started.

I managed to get hold of a US Apple TV (I live in the UK by the way) and have been using that one for the last 2 months and have not had any issues with it at all on any of the 3 TV's I own and have been experiencing problems with.

I still have my UK bought Apple TV and it is still giving me trouble but now it is only now and then that the problems happen, say about 1 in 5 times when I want to use it.

Both Apple TV's have been updated with the latest firmware and both appear to be working fine when they get turned on. I wonder why though, the US Apple TV is not having the same problem.

No video output from AppleTV after update.
