4.2.1 - Apps & Folders slow/delay to reorganize pages - What's Up !?!?

Prior to my install of the 4.2.1 software, my apps started to jiggle almost right-away if I attempted to reorganize them by pressing on them for 1 sec. Now with 4.2.1 I press the icon for about 1 sec and they start to jiggle 5 sec later.

Also...when I attempt to lock them down by pressing the home button, there is again a delay 5 seconds or longer for to stop jiggling.

This all worked elegantly without delay in the previous 4.1 version.

As a side note, I am using a 32gb iphone and it's about 85% full (1/2 music, 1/2 apps). I have restored and reloaded the software, restarted the iphone, reset the phone, & I have reset the settings... No luck....

Is anyone else having this same problem ?

Also, I'd be open to suggestions for troubleshooting...

Seems to be the case for me as well on my iPhone 4.

What I have done though was reset network settings, reset keyboard dictionary, reset home screen layout and finally reset location warnings. It took care of the problem and the folders were very snappy to open. (didn't matter how many apps were per folder).

However maybe after a week, the folders just started to lag once pressed again. I can't make why it does that exactly and why resetting certain things will automatically make it better. Maybe it has something to do with memory and cache.

I've had the same experience, though I had to reduce the number of items in each folder (I have 7 folders in my 32Gb iPhone 4) to 7 for the performance to return to normal. Plus, I had to do a soft reboot. Interesting that having more than 7 or 8 items in ANY folder affects all of them.

I also noticed that simple things like typing in messages was sometimes slowed as well, so it's not just when you're using the folders that it's a problem.

Hi,

I read this thread after I had the same 2 problems.

Removing apps from the folder to a max of 8 apps per folder helped the jiggle slowness.

Something else that helped the device to work faster is to remove almost anything from the spotlight search options - I have only the apps selected there.

I have iPhone 4, iOS 4.2.1, 316 apps

Hope that helps

I'm having similar issues. My 32gb iPhone 4 has an annoying delay when opening a folder, closing a folder, and clicking the home button. The home button is the worst for me. I'm not sure if it's normal, but there is a good 1 second delay (if not longer) until it registers that I clicked it. The delay opening folders is about the same. I find myself clicking things twice because I don't think the iPhone registered my first click. I'm not sure it's a bug so much as an annoying design decision, but people with previous generation iPhones may be able to clarify that.

I have experienced the exact same behavior. Opening folders and brining up the multitasking tray take between 1 and 3 seconds every time. Making adjustments to Spotlight preferences or restricting folder size seems to have no effect for me. I have seen this on a number of iPhone 4's, but was surprised to see how much better iPhone 3GS' perform using the same iOS version: As far as I can see, this is an iPhone 4-specific problem. Maddening.
