4.2.1 - Apps & Folders slow/delay to reorganize pages - What's Up !?!?

Prior to my install of the 4.2.1 software, my apps started to jiggle almost right-away if I attempted to reorganize them by pressing on them for 1 sec. Now with 4.2.1 I press the icon for about 1 sec and they start to jiggle 5 sec later.

Also...when I attempt to lock them down by pressing the home button, there is again a delay 5 seconds or longer for to stop jiggling.

This all worked elegantly without delay in the previous 4.1 version.

As a side note, I am using a 32gb iphone and it's about 85% full (1/2 music, 1/2 apps). I have restored and reloaded the software, restarted the iphone, reset the phone, & I have reset the settings... No luck....

Is anyone else having this same problem ?

Also, I'd be open to suggestions for troubleshooting...

Disabling Location Services and rebooting the phone worked fine for me. Folders are opening much more snappy now. Home button and Multi Task are also responding much faster. I would say it's on par with the performance my iPhone had out of the box.

I wonder how long it will keep being snappy, before it will become sluggish again.
+At least I have a way to make it fast again :-)+

This 5+ second delay, when entering and leaving reorganization mode, has been really irritating me since the 4.2.1 update. Dixon had the answer for me. Reorganizing (yes it's tedious) all my many app folders, to contain only 8 apps max, got the response time back down to under a second. Nice job figuring this out, Dixon!

Sad to say, the 7 second camera open delay is still there. It's difficult to capture the moment, which has often passed by then.

I've had the same problems for a while. I have more than 8 apps in a folder and 2 home screens. The sluggishness disappears or opening folders, including the camera app is snappy after turning off the location services and powering off and then turning the phone back on. However, when you choose the camera app, it will ask for the location services be turned back on in order to tag the photos you take. It was still snappy after I turned it back on. How long, I don''t know but try this.
Good luck.

I'm having the same problems that are described in this thread. These are:

- extremely slow folders, takes ages to open and close
- very slow camera app, can take > 10 secs to start the camera
- rearranging the icons is very laggy
- updating apps makes the phone unusable while updating (cannot even change screen...)
- multitasking so slow I often manage to click in and out thinking the phone did not register my clicking
- random stuttering while typing

I have tried restoring and installing as a new phone, which did help - for a while. But now I'm back to the old lagorama.

A reboot will help for a little while, but I've never needed to reboot my iPhones earlier, so this must be a bug of some sort. (A memory leak would probably give these kind of symptoms?)

Thank you so much! Had the same problems on iPhone4 with iOS 4.2.1 (slow folders, slow camera, slow home button). On my 32GB iPhone I have 400 apps and many folders with over 8 apps. About 14GB used, 18GB available

*Resetting the network settings did it for me.* All the above mentioned problems are gone for now (I wonder for how long though).

I have an ipod touch 4 and was having the same problem. Thought that apple would try to repair this in the next update, just updated to ios 4.3 and it still has the same problem....its so annoying.

The problem that I have at the moment is that i have organized my folders perfectly for how i use my device, most folders are full so i can get as many apps as possible onto my device as possible, and it seems the general fix for this problem is to not put more than 8 apps in each folder. Whats the point in allowing up to 12 apps per folder if you cant utilize this capability?

If i remember correctly, ios 4 came with folders and 2 extra home pages for "more apps", but if i can only put 8 apps in each folder, i would have to remove 4 apps from each folder. Assuming i have filled a page with folders, i would need to find space for 64 apps (4 apps X 16 folders), that would require 8 extra folders. Now times that by 11 (the number of pages i could potentially have filled with folders) and i would have to magic up 88 extra folders to accommodate my apps (704 in total, ). Now this would require 5.5 extra pages....not 2!.....and thats not good.

I shouldnt have to sacrifice that many apps because a flaw in the OS. I really dont want to re-organize my folders as a I have already spent ages getting them organized. How can I complain to apple at consumer level so that maybe they post an ios 4.3.1 update that fixes this issue?

I've had the same issues with my iPhone 4 32GB running 4.3 IOS

For some time now, I thought it was due to my large number of apps, but after deleting a lot of those apps in an attempt to revive my iPhone, with no noticeable difference I came across this discussion.

I've had these issues for quite some time

- very slow camera app, can take > 10 secs to start the camera

- rearranging the icons is very, very slow (more than 5secs lag)

- updating apps makes the phone unusable while updating (iPhone freezes)

- often find that updates are already listed as installed in the iTunes update page

- random stuttering while typing

Ive tried the turn off location services, reset iPhone trick with NO change.

Please help me return my iPhone to it's previous grandeur!!

Will updating to 4.3.3 work to fix this issue?!

I tend to want to wait til 5.0 IOS comes out, hopefully soon!!

I've already lived with this issue for so long I almost forgot how effortless my iPhone was to use!
