Deleting Cydia

You have to do a complete restore through iTunes

Cydia is installed onto your device when you jailbreak it. If you remove it then the jailbreak would have been useless unless you have already done what you needed to do (like install an ssh server).

As far as I know the only way to remove it is to restore it to the default Apple firmware, but as you said that gives you an error. Try putting it in DFU mode first and then restoring it.

No problem, oh and a heads up the Apple fanboys here don't like talking about jailbreaking, thankfully there are few people to help and many other places to talk about it 😉

roaminggnome, is this your opinion or an official Apple position? If the latter, can you point me to the Apple Terms of Service that cover the prohibition of jailbreak discussions?

Alex, this is not opinion, it is fact. Apple does not support or approve of jail breaking their devices. It actually voids the warranty. So if you need service on your device from Apple, you are out of luck.

Sorry but the Fed has ruled that jailbreaking is not illegal anymore so how does that apply to your rule you quoted?

It doesn't matter if it is illegal or not. Apple sets the terms and conditions of their warranty and jail breaking voids the warranty. Also this is Apple's playground, if they don't want members to discuss jail breaking, they can delete any posts they want.

Well apparently they haven't deleted the thread yet. These are usually gone in minutes of posting.

The above rule above is about the Terms under which you signed up to use the boards. It does not matter whether the activity is illegal or not - you have agreed not to discuss it in order to participate. It does not prevent you from discussing it elsewhere. Its not a Law - its Terms of use.

Its like having a no Shorts entry rule to a nightclub. Shorts are not illegal but you can't wear them in the club and would be refused entry.

Same here with jailbreaking discussions - talk about it here and the thread will be pulled and do it often enough and you'll get booted out.

Mentioning it is fine as long as no higher level users notice or object - discussing the 'how' bit gets it pulled sharpish.
