Connecting Volvo stereos by USB

My iphone 4 stopped connecting to my volvo car stereos by USB after the upgrade to 4.2. It appears I'm not the only one, but I'm afraid Apple won't fix this problem for only few Volvo owners ...

Experienced the same problem with my 2010 Volvo XC90 and Ipod Touch Gen 2. Unreadable after upgrade to 4.2.1

*Fixed it* by downgrading back to 4.1 firmware and restoring Ipod. Re-synced all my apps and itunes and now working as before.

Apart from downloading the firmware the trick was to get the ipod to into restore mode and select this firmware rather than downloading directly from the apple server.

I used shift key plus the Restore and then selected the file I had downloaded
, itunes responded with an error 11 - but I simply did the same again shift restore and again pointed to the 4.1 firmware. All done except it said cannot restore music as the backup was newer - no problem just selected new ipod. Used the same name and selected what to re-sync -all apps, and tunes from my itunes library.

Don't give up - it can be done!

Just took delivery of my C30 R-Design today with my spanking new entertainment system............only to find my iPhone don't work with it!! Apparently it's because of iOS4.2?!?

FAO Apple, please fix this lest you turn this Apple lover into a Hater!

Im sorry that you all are going through this - but Im happy to hear that its not just me. Im having the same problem, and my Volvo dealer thinks im a crazy person. 2011 S40, iPod touch. upgraded the software when my car was being serviced. Go to plug is back in, and i get "USB Unreadable".
I can use an aux cable, but the sound isnt as good and i cant control it through the stereo or the steering wheel controls.

I am going to try the upgrade and see because i was really upset when i went on my first roadtrip in my new XC60 and the usb didn't work for my iphone! i agree that the responsibility falls heavily on volvo because they should want their vehicles to be able to work well with something as popular as an iphone!

This is just typical of Apple they are becoming more like Microsoft every day. When will they release a fix for this?

The same problem with my Volvo C70T5 2010 and Ipod Touch. Unreadable after upgrade to 4.2.1.

Same here. My iPhone worked great with my volvo v50 prior to the iOS upgrade. Now it is unreadable. 🙂

just bought a ipod touch 4g. upgraded it to 4.2.1 the next day my new volvo s40 came. u guyz know what im talking bout..well done apple.

i have same problem i am hope apple reads this stuff very aggravating to have a new car and new phone that dont work.
