How to reset forgotten Restrictions password with iPhone restore?

Hi,

I set restrictions on my iphone to disable in-app purchases so that my children don't rack up a bill on my account. Unfortunately I've forgotten the password and now I need an in-app purchase for CoPilot navigation app.

Can I reset my iPhone and then restore from a backup to clear the restrictions password? If so, is there a step by step guide to do this? Much appreciate any help.

I have figured out how to reset password. I recently cracked my screen and went to the apple store for them to replace it. As you all know iOS 8 just recently came out and along with it 3rd party keyboards. Well in one specific keyboard app, to get a certain feature you have to upgrade the app which is an in-app purchase which was restricted on my previous phone. I forgot the password of course and once I got the replacement phone the Genius who helped me told me either I can keep the replacement phone will the new iPhone factory settings (seeing as all my contacts were still there and I didn't lose any pictures or anything important since they were all backed up on the computer) or I could take it home to restore . If I kept the new iPhone factory settings i could change the restrictions code since its no longer locked but if I restored my phone the same restrictions password and same 9 failed attempts would still be there. What i did was changed the restrictions code, bought the in app purchase and then restored my phone using iTunes with crossed fingers hoping that after the restore it didn't change back. Sure enough after the restore my restrictions password was the new password and I still had my in app purchase. Hope this was helpful I know some of Apple's rules can be a bit of a pain but i found away around it 🙂

Thank you so much!!! I was able to remove my restrictions passcode on my iPhone 5s with iOS 8.4 but in doing so, I found multiple plist files with 0kb size and strange strings at the file end. See screenshot, should I delete/ignore these empty files? One dates back to 12/31/1969 and I know not what this means (System file?) Will they cause me issue? Where did they come from?

Hi,

I initially forgot the restrictions password that i've set on my daughter iPhone . Using the info in this thread ,I was able to change the password for the iphone 6 restrictions using IBackupBot for itunes. After I restored the modified backup, i was able to login into the restrictions. My problem is the moment my daughter logs in to icloud from the iphone it restores the old settings with the old password and i loose the changes. Is there a way to prevent the icloud account to overwrite the settings. Thank you.

Sorry by mistake i addressed it to Philly_Phan, it is a general reply.

You only get 8 tries. I'm completely bewildered as to what the code could be because frankly I don't remember ever setting a restrictions code and I tried both of the 4 digit codes I regularly use. I simply cannot remember the code and I am the owner of the device and I'm the one trying to get in SO there SHOULD be a way to bypass the restriction for HUMAN flaws like this like not freaking remembering a code. You get few chances to guess.
