iPhone 4.2.1 & Bose SoundDock Problems

Hello,

Since updating to the latest software when I connect my iPhone to my Bose Sounddock series 2 I get "This accessory is not designed for iphone" the phone charges but it will not play back. No audio whatsoever, I have tried a soft reset and a restore but still have the same problem.

I decided it was my sounddock so took my iPhone to work and tried it in several bose systems and same happens there, I get the phone to charge but no audio.

I am hoping someone can help me.

Thanks for your time.

Your "proof" indicates that with your iphone on 4.2.1 you are not able to use the Sounddock II. Since the other poster indicated that he could use his with 4.2.1 it would indicate this is not a systemic 4.2.1 bug, since if it was ALL iphone 4s with 4.2.1 would not work with the Bose.

Yours could have a dock connector hardware problem that occurred by coincidence with the upgrade or it could have a corrupted upgrade, or it could be a corrupted 3rd party app.

I'm agree.
I'm looking for...

Have you tried Restoring your phone as new, not loading any of your apps, then connecting with the Bose?

I tried but no result.
I wanted to downgrad to 4.1 but it seems to be too much difficult for me and it may avoid waranty...
Thanks for your interest

I don't see any other option other than it being an OS problem. Just like an OS update helped some people with proximity sensor issues, it seems that some are not affected by this problem with the software.

I started with:

- iPhone 4, 4.0
- iPhone 4, 4.0
- iPhone 3G, 3.1.2
- iPhone 3G, 4.0

* ALL phones work on my Bose Sounddock

I then upgraded all phones to 4.1. Immediately afterwards, I noticed my iPhone 4 didn't work. Then I tried all 4 phones and NONE of them worked on the Bose Sounddock.

All dock connectors are clean, the Sounddock is immaculate.

So, as soon as 4.2.1 came out, I updated my iPhone 4. Didn't work.

One week ago, I got a warranty replacement for my iPhone 4; it came with 4.2.1. Doesn't work.

So in total, 5 phones on firmwares above 4.0 do not work; 4 of which worked 20 minutes before upgrading to 4.1/4.2.1, and 1 which came directly from the Apple store with 4.2.1.

This needs to be fixed and Bose and Apple are ignoring it.

I know the world is tired of hearing this, but I am sitting here listening happily to an iPhone 4 (delivered to me day 1, serial number 88023RPGA4T) running OS 4.2.1, sitting in a Bose SoundDock Series II, serial number 05276990188057 1AE (U.S. Pat Nos 7,277,765 D576,148 5,361,381)

I cannot give any further information, beyond the demonstrated fact that OS 4.2.1 is not a problem. Unless, of course mine is different to yours. Perhaps the SoundDock in the UK is different?

I should mention I'm using a Sounddock original. Not the II model.

It's clear that it's not affecting everyone. It started with me on 4.1 and others on 4.2.1.

But it is crystal clear that 5 phones of mine ceased to work immediately upon upgrade and the 1 iPod I have with original firmware still works.

I don't know how to explain it other than as a software issue. Software/hardware compatibility is not just as simple as "if it works for one it must work for all."

I've submitted by post to Apple but don't expect a response.

Somehow I believe if I go in and spend a few hundred dollars on the latest Sounddock II, my phones will start working but that's the paranoid part of me thinking they're in cohorts with Bose to end legacy support in favour of new purchases.

The only fact you had demonstrated is that there's no problem with YOUR iPhone, YOUR iOS 4.2.1 and YOUR sounddock. From this fact you could had say that it's not a systematic bug. But I think you don't want to understand that. When i eat chocolate, i have my left ear scratchy. But it's true for me and just for me. Not for you. Or if it's true for you we could be the first two members of the International Association of scratchy left ear chocolate eaters ! Exciting, isn't it ?

If you try 10 iPhones with my sounddock and observe that no one works, it may be a problem with my sounddock. But it works with my wife's iPhone.
If you try 10 sounddocks with my iPhone and observe that no one works, it may be a problem with my iPhone or the OS.

So after numerous tries with numerous sounddock, I gone to an Apple Store, I explained my problem at Genius Bar. The genius has made a cross test on the sounddock with two iPhone 4.2.1 from the store and mine. He first tried to wash the connector with no result and finally said : there is a problem with your Phone, i give you a new one immediately.
I have the new iPhone, i have restored it, it works perfectly now.

Conclusion : there is no problem with the bose sounddock. That is a demonstrated fact.
Does the problem come from the iPhone or the iOS (due to regional changes or regional parameters or anything else) ? no one knows. Like no one knows why someones had a bug of alarm clock for newyear and some other ones hadn't.

So, for those who have this problem, just go to an Apple Store (easy to say sometimes i know), explain your problem and if the genius is just a little bit clever, you will have a new fully functionnal iPhone

I have just called Apple support and paid the extented warranty package to being said that since I didn`t purchase my BOSE system via the Apple site, they do not support any problem linked to it or provide any troubleshooting.

I am very unsatisfied, I was used to having a great support from them and getting this answer is stunning.

My iPhone 4 was working well before and now does not work anymore. I am sure that companies have to pay to use the "certified for iPhone" mention, so why Apple does not support it.

I have also tried with a radio clock yesterday (also iPhone certified) and it didn`t work. Extremely frustrating.
