I've basically tried every solution and still no luck. The main issue for me was that whilst installing the update, I had my brightness turned down to nothing (for some reason why I close my MBP on Bootcamp , wifi drops out so instead I just turn off all brightness). As a result, I can't attempt to repair Bootcamp and such as I can't see what's going on.

Is that anything that I could possibly do?

    Thanks in advance

Use a displayport/thunderboltport -> VGA or DVI adapter to hook up your MBP to an external monitor (or a Mac monitor), this will allow you to see whats going on, at least it did for me. Once I could see what's going on, I could repair bootcamp. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks for the response Griffin

I was thinking about giving that a crack but didn't have an adaptor handy so i shone a torch at my screen for about 10 minutes whilst furiously trying to work out where the cursor was. After that,I opened control panel>display settings and then cranked up the brightness. After the brightness was up, I ran an older version of Bootcamp which prompted me to uninstall Bootcamp altogether. When that was over, I just reinstalled that older version and now it runs great. Note to self: Don't perform Apple updates. (Previously had issue with 10.6.8 wifi aswell )

    Problem solved for me!

    This is what I did:

Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings > slide setting to 'Never notify' > Reboot.

    That did the trick.

Steve, did this stay fixed for you? I tried this, restarted, and it worked. Later when I tried to tried to adjust the brightness, it was back to not working. I can adjust it with the Mac keyboard or using Power Options, but the brightness of the display doesn't change. I have confirmed UAC is still on "Never Notify".

So, please, can you confirm that your fix has continued to work for you rather than just being temporary? Thanks.

It still works... most of the time.

There's one scenario where the fix doesn't work.  If I boot in to Windows using the Bootcamp icon at the top right corner of my Mac OS desktop, I seem to lose brightness controls.  But if I boot using the boot selector by holding the alt button, the controls work like they should.

Ooo, I'll give that a try. I've been using BootChamp to boot Windows each time.

Macbook Pro function key problem including keyboard light and screen brightness using Window7

    Function key stopped working

    Bootcamp.exe is not working

    Find Bootcamp.exe and activate it.
    Computer/BOOTCAMP(C)/Program files/Boot Camp/Bootcamp.exe
Double click on the Bootcamp.exe = Function key works now

    To make this permanent solution:
Mouse over Bootcamp.exe/right click on the mouse/Pin to start menu

Thanks so much, Steve. Since I stopped using Bootchamp to restart into Windows and started using the regular process of selecting the boot partition at boot time, my brightness controls are working perfectly in Windows 7. I never would have guess this, so I never would have tried it. Appreciated!

    Great Collaborative Work!    although :-(

    After deciding to clean up / re-partition and reload . . .

I've tried everything above, the UAC thing, and some, and still am having the volume and screen brightness keys not functioning on the Windows 7 side of this place.  The boot camp program shows up in my x86 program folder.  When in the Control Panel Items, BootCamp is there as a blank page and when clicked, we get a 'application not found'.

When trying to re-install, the Windows 'Bootcamp' installation still comes up with the:

"Service 'KeyAgent' (Key Agent) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient priveleges to start system services."

and the same comes up a few moment slater with "Service 'MacHAL' (Mac HAL Driver) failed to start   .   .   .   . "

Any suggestions and/or map to get me through this will be greatly appreciated !

    This worked for me:

In Windows7, goto Control Panel -> Display -> Change Display settings.

Look for the Advanced settings link

This will launch a new dialog.

Go to the GEForce tab. It's on my computer, so if its not on yours, sorry if this is not relevant.

    Start NVIDIA Control Panel

    Adjust Desktop Color Settings

There is a Brightness setting there that worked for me.

    Hope this helps.

This is a completely new installation? Because your Windows install sound pooched to me and the best strategy sounds like a reinstall unless someone has a better suggestion.

this is my fix. Windows 8 or 7

go to control panel => hardware and sound => Power options => edit plan settings

the click 'change advanced power settings'

expand display, then turn off 'enable adaptive brightness'

    and it's fixed.

In my case, it's definitely related to the Nvidia Control Panel and/or driver. Uninstalling the driver from Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs immediately gives brightness control back to the F1/F2 buttons.

However, the driver keeps reinstalling itself. Left alone for a few minutes, Windows pops up a message demanding a restart for the newly installed drivers. I'm not sure if this is a function of Boot Camp or Windows.

And upon reboot, brightness control is lost again...

I am having a similar issue where the brightness changes but it does not display the level of brightness.
