Closed Captioning Problems - SCC files

This problem has occured on multiple occasions. I have attempted to author a DVD normally which will be fine, then on a new version will try and add a .scc file through the line 21 option of DVD Studio Pro 4.

Error upon Build:

Closed Caption timecode overlap at line:325

I have had this same problem with other files on different lines. I have considered that the .scc file begins with timecode 10:00:00:00 and I don't think the captured QT is the same. Any ideas?

Sounds like the timecode may be messed up at caption 325. Where did you get you captioning file, (.scc?)

I read here a little while ago about a freeware that allows you to adjust the timecode of a .scc file.

I personally use a software called Mac Caption Pro, which allows me to correct and adjust timecode. It also allows me to merg the .scc file information with an already encoded .m2v file, which and then can be imported into DVD SP as a normal .m2v file, negating the need to use the line 21 option of DVD SP.

You are correct in assuming that the timecode of the .scc file and the captured QT file must match. If you would like, you could send me the .scc file and I would be glade to check the line that has the error and see if the timecode really does overlap.

You will need to email me a copy of the .scc file. My email is under my name at the left.

What is the starting timecode of you QT file?

I received your email and checked your .scc file, it was full of errors, (all of which were overlapping timecodes.)

Also, DVD SP's timecode default starts at 00:00:00:00, so your source file should also comply with that start time, it just makes things easier and keeps things strait (but not nessary if you choose to be different, that's the reason for the offset in DVD SP's line 21 area.)

The file I returned now begins at 00:00:00:00 but the first caption appears at the timecode you originally chose.

Let us all know if the helped and hopefully solved your problem.

Thanks for reviewing the file and finding these errors. I tried to rebuild the disc and there is definate progress. The disc burns without errors. I now get a message saying:

MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass 4:3 : Some closed caption data does not fall within the video timecode range and is being skipped.

I assume this is because the other caption lines start at the 10 hour mark

ie. 10:00:02:00

Do I simply need to change them all to 00:xx:xx:xx???

I feel this could be the solution.
