iMovie '11 Cutaway Problems

Hey everyone.

I seem to be having a problem with my cutaways in iMovie '11.

I can more then happily insert a cutaway, picture in picture, and a side by side action with VIDEO clips, however, I can't seem to be able to do it with PHOTOS.

What happens is that when I place the photo and select "cutaway", the video footage freezes for the duration of 4 seconds and then once the cutaway ends, the footage comes back. For side by side, the photo is all black, same for picture in picture. This seems to be a new problem for me. I have advanced tools on/enabled. I just want to know why I can't seem to do a photo cutaway as apposed to a video cutaway.

Am I the only person having this problem? Or are they others?

I've found that resizing the photo fixes this bug. If the photo is the same size or smaller than your video it will cutaway and/or export just fine. If the photo is even minutely too large, it turns that portion of your video black.

Hey, all. Had the same problem with iMovie '11 not allowing me to place photos over video, nor were the Cutaway or other options available. What you don't necessarially want - or need - to do is mess with the video quality or resolution of your video or photos to make your project. The solution is SOOO simple with only one click:

Go to: iMovie/ Preferences/ General

You HAVE to select: "Show Advanced Tools"

I've got IMovie 11 and have Advanced Tools on, but can not get the cutaway feature to show up. I place on clip on top of another, but the only option is to have the clip appear before or after the other clip --- there is no menu.

I've used cutaway before I upgraded and reloaded the program.

I know it's probably not a very technical solution but I was having the same issue.

I closed iMovie and re-started it. When I then downloaded an image into the project all worked fine.

Admittedly, this is based on one instance but it did work for me.

I used JPEG files btw.

I first used a png then I changed the picture to a jpg and it works fine with me. Hope this help anyone.

I am yet another person that can't insert a cutaway without is playing or not playing for no apparent reason. I just went throught a different dilemma with iPhoto with now luck. Buggy Buggy Buggy.

Hi, only when you actually play the clip it freezes. When I export the project it works fine...
