Unable to join network

I have an iPhone that's unable to join my AirPort Extreme network.

The strange thing is that I'm able to join a network that I create on my PowerBook G4, but never the AiPort Extreme. So the Wi-Fi on the iPhone appears to be okay.

3G, iPhone OS 3.1.3, Mac OS X 10.5.8

I too am getting the same thing, it is incredibly annoying, many apps require wifi to update and I cannot use the wifi at all at home (where I am 99% of the time since I am disabled), yet other things like a 3G mobile will work fine, BUT I should not have to pay for a 3G mobile wifi just to do something that I should be able to do.

It was working perfectly up too a few weeks ago, it just stopped

This has been happening to me for the last several weeks. Very frustrating. At first, I did some searching and found that I had to RESET my network settings. This caused the iPhone to "forget" every network that I had ever joined (what a pain to re-login). It did work - but only for a week. Interestingly enough, it also affected my old iPhone (original). Same problem.

I do have an airport extreme network with some nodes set to 802.11n ONLY but I also have one set for 802.11g.

After some work trying out different settings I have finally solved this.

1) Make sure that the settings of your Airport Extreme are in mixed a/b/n mode

2) Open Airport Utility

3) Select Upload Firmware from the BaseStation menu

4) If you current version is 7.5.2, click Upload Firmware

5) Select 7.5.1 from the pop up menu

6) Restore Firmware

After this is complete, you should be able to use your iPhone with the Airport Extreme. The latest firmware is buggy and does not allow iPhones with the latest iOS to connect.

If this solves it for you, please click solved (or correct answer) in the apple discussion boards.

Thanks

I wonder under what circumstances Airport firmware 7.5.2 causes this problem? We have three Airport Extremes, all with 7.5.2, and two iPhones (3GS and 4) and an iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.5. The iPhones and iPad have absolutely no problem connecting to the Airports. Whatever this is, it apparently isn't a universally-experienced bug.
