I have been using Aperature with great speed and agility. I have been able to power through several thousand images that my constantly crashing Nikon Capture batch mechanism won't handle. But when I tried to get to the files that came from my LS-4000 scanner it won't decode the file. Are there different standards from my Nikon Camera NEF than with the Scanner NEF? I checked on the Nikon site to make sure that I had the latest versions which I do. Any insight into how I might be able to get the files to read in aperature? Are there third party codecs that can be loaded into the Aperature engine?
Unfortunately, file formats, even from the same company are not exactly the same. It is probably true that the NEF format you get from your scanner is just different enough from the camera NEF to make the difference. In this case, you will need to scan to another format supported by Aperture (i.e. TIFF or high quality jpeg).
I will try to see if it opens the NEF saved format in capture. That one is strange too because it has no associated preview with it. And sorry about the spelling of Aperture in the above post...! My fingers are phonetic...
I have had no problems with Aperture with Nikon Coolscan IV TIFFS, but the Nikon View has been wobbly. I have not yet downloaded the new View from Nikon for mac.
You have to understand, I could get NOTHING to read the Coolscan NEFS, so I switched to TIFFs about a year ago.
