My screen quit rotating to landscape when viewing mail

I recently updated my os to the latest versin and my screen no longer rotates to landscape when viewing mail. I THINK it did for the first few days but now am not sure. I KNOW it did before the update. do i need to reset the Ipad? will i lose anything? sorry for the questions but I am new to Ipad.

Double-click the "Home" button. When the "Recents" tray appears, slide it to the right to display the rotation lock switch at the extreme left. Confirm/set the lock to OFF.

Funnily enough, I saw a couple of other threads on the same subject. I can't locate them right now to see if there was a solution, but have a look around here. The search might help!

I am having the same problem, since update to new OS, my mail is now in landscape mode only and will not rotate to any other position, I have tried the new unlock screen. Nothing works. Plese help

Good news it is working correctly! Not really sure what happened. I made sure it was unlocked and it did not change but after spending an overnight recharging. I went to my mail and it worked. Must have needs time to make the change. Btw I did download the newest manual for the new OS but it did not really answer this. I did learn Palme other things though. Thanks for all the help. I hope this helped someone else too

Yes, correct. Swipe to the right and you'll see the screen lock function.

That the recent list (tray). People have been calling it the multitask tray when it really has nothing to do with multitasking.

I had the same problem. The unlock button had no effect, but the problem was only with mail.
I powered the iPad completely off (hold down top button for several seconds..). When I powered the iPad back up, the mail program rotated as expected.

So, try turning the unit all the way off, then back on.

I had the same problem. Solved it by powering off and on as suggested by Captain Gern - thanks.
Should have remembered that powering off and on again is often the solution to many software problems.

My screen is locked completely not just in mail. Double clicking only brings up home, search or Ipod, no recent (multitasking) bar.

I have owned a iPad since it's release and the mail rotation is a software problem that began with the prior os update. Only the mail stops rotating and the only way to fix the error is to reset the iPad. It is a real pain to do especially

when we are trying to view and create emails on the run. Apple engineers need to write a fix or find the program that is gliching the rotation of the email app.
