Airplay stops when iPhone sleeps

When I tried to use AirPlay from an iPhone 3GS to my Apple TV, all was working well until the iPhone screen locked ( slept ) then the video would pause on the Apple TV.
This is annoying.

Is there anyway to prevent this without having to adjust the screen lock timeout on the iPhone?

Turn Auto-Lock to off. Then it won't interrupt the movie.

I just had to reset my router due to a connection problem.

And that's when my iPhone Auto-lock started interrupting my video feed. Prior to reset, it was working fine all day.

I believe it's being picky about the order in which you start your devices.

It may be because I didn't reset Apple TV right after I reset my router.

It's definitely something to do with the order in which your devices are powered up.

I was using Aereo to watch TV all day with iPhone 4S and Apple TV, with no problem.

As soon as I powered up the router, my iPhone settings took presidency over the Apple TV 2.

This info should help you resolve the problem.

Meanwhile just change auto-lock to never, to watch an uninterrupted stream.

I have an iPhone 5 with the latest iOS update and I used to have the same issue. Try turning off your phone and when it starts up again go straight to the youtube app and airplay the song. Let the phone sleep by its own and airplay should still be playing. I believe turning off/on clears the cookies/caches in the phone because all my search results from the previous search were gone once it restarted. Hope it helps!

not really, in most cases it still SHUT's the STREAMING down when your Apple device is going to sleep/lock. I found the only way is to change it to sleep NEVER then everything works. But you will have another issue - your BATTERy will drain much more faster even if you change brightness to minimum level.

For your information guys, I have:

- ipad mini (1st generation)

-ipad 2

-ipad air

-iphone 5

-iphone 6

-iphone 6 plus

I have STREAM issue on all of my apple devices, All of the have the latest iOS and without any modifications.

Apple guys, you see how much we do invest? Can someone at least reply on our messages!!!!!!! This thread is already a few years old!

Thank you,

I am encountering this problem as well. When I'm connected via AirPlay to my Apple TV, music apps (Pandora, Spotify, and Songza all exhibit the issue) stop playing music when the screen is locked.

However, I connected via AirPlay to my stereo receiver directly (STR-DN1040) and it works just fine.

The lock screen might fix it (I am not going to try) but so does connecting to something other than Apple TV. This leads me to believe there is something else going on here.

The live background fixed it for me

Seriously, this was crazy annoying to troubleshoot. I encountered this bug on my 6S while trying to Airplay to an Apple TV from the YouTube app. Ironically, i only used my device for this because airplay did not work from youtube.com in the latest version of ElCap/Safari. How many more years until this feature become reliable??
