Airplay stops when iPhone sleeps

When I tried to use AirPlay from an iPhone 3GS to my Apple TV, all was working well until the iPhone screen locked ( slept ) then the video would pause on the Apple TV.
This is annoying.

Is there anyway to prevent this without having to adjust the screen lock timeout on the iPhone?

Same here this is ridiculous. Apple TV + any iDevice (including macbook pro) and the stupid stream stops on sleep. Irritating to no freaking end. 5 years later...

rubbish ios update. Had to update to fix the freaking bluetooth audio sync issue, but now this?

and there i thought apple had boasted with their 99% customer satisfication. Airplay breaks everytime my ipad goes to sleep. Freaking ridiculous

Just use screen mirroring. This will prevent playback interruption.
