Printopia question..getting started..or Airprint forum?

So I am the happy owner of our new iPad and I want to set up the wireless print. I see where some folks with older printers have downloaded Printopia to their iMac (not the device) and are able to print from both iPhone and iPad. Our printer is a HP 4500 Deskjet. Might this work or will I have to replace the printer? Thanks, Bill

I have no clue if that will work but I wouldn't be too quick to replace the printer. AirPrint is clearly a "work in progress" and I fully expect more capability in the next IOS.

This may not be applicable now, since I have 4.3.3 and most of this conversation happened a while ago, but I downloaded a free app, Epson iPrint and was able to print wirelessly to my Epson Workforce 610 without using a computer in any way. However, I cannot print directy from safari, I have to copy the URL into the Epson app and print from it.

The original thread posts I read indicated that some legal hurdle caused the limititation of the AirPrint printer access, and that updates may be on the way. Is that still the sentiment?

I'd rather not buy a compatible printer, or have to print via my computer, just to print an odd boarding pass or RMA slip...
