iPad-AirPrint on Canon wireless printers?

Does anyone have information about iPad OS 4.02 and when it will support Canon wireless PIXMA printers, like the MX models? I'd like to ask about Abobe Flash support as well, but I think that issue appears to be a dead deal even though it's ruining my browser experience esp. for on-line banking. Thanks!

iPad, iOS 4, 32GB w/OS 4.02

Nothing has been announced about other printers with AirPrint. If you're a Mac user (good idea to stick this info in your signature), you can use something like Printopia to enable AirPrint support for any printer connected to your Mac:

Regarding Flash... with the frequent security updates for Flash, I'm actually shocked to hear that any bank would even consider using Flash for online banking. I certainly wouldn't trust Flash with my private banking data!

Nobody here can say what apple's plans are, since this is just a user-to-user forum.

For your bank, I would have a serious talk with them about using flash on that kind of site, not only for ipad compatibility but because of the many security issues with flash on any platform. I would be most uncomfortable if my bank used flash in any important way for online banking. (Frankly, I've never heard of a such a thing, not in recent years when it's become clear that flash needs such frequent patching for zero day exploit vulnerabilities.)

EDIT for now, instead of printopia, you could also try this:

AirPrint already works with all AirPrint enabled printers.

It's up to Canon to update their printers to use AirPrint.

You should contact your bank and tell them to update their website.

I just emailed Canon with this question, and this is their reply:

"Canon IJ printers do not support Apple's new AirPrint technology. There
is no plan to support this at this time. We apologize for any
inconvenience this may cause and we urge you to periodically check our
website for updates."

So I guess it's up to Apple.

Just idle curiosity but how will Apple be able to build a feature into a Canon printer?

I also contacted Canon and got the same sort of answer, with the added "we do not discuss future plans", etc, etc. I've given them my input, it is now up to them to decide if they want to sell printers to iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch users or cede this market to HP (I got a similar response from Epson).

I prefer Canon printers, and since my MacPro stays on I am printing to my i860 with my iPad/iPhone, but the HP Envy is looking good right now as a replacement.

Like Meg I am curious as to why you think Apple is going to be able somehow build in AirPrint support in Canon printers at their factory?

I guess it is up to us as consumers to vote with our wallet.

Really? Seems like Canon just told you THEY don't plan to support Airprint at this time. How would you expect Apple to insert their technology into Canon printers?

Hey Deggie,

Not sure if you saw, but yesterday Canon announced it's including AirPrint capability in several of its new Pixma printers.

I was rather disappointed by that announcement, because I guess it means that my expensive MP 960 won't get Airprint support. Oh well, printing from the iPad isn't high priority anyway...
