Unable to Download applications

Hi i am unable to download applications from app store in the iphone 3gs os 4.1
when i am downloading it says Unable to Download Application .. skype will be available for download when you log in to the iTunes Store on your Computer..
I am getting this error for every application which i am trying to download.
Pls fix my problem

Thanks this worked for me my pernissions were set to root: wheel: changed them both to mobile and worked so thank you for a stellar job

The corupted directory was var/mobile/MEDIA

If your permissions allready set to mobile/mobile and the problem still appears, check the read/write/execute settings to that folder!

It should be: USER: read/write/execute, GROUP: read/write/execute, WORLD: read.

If it's not, change it!

No Restore, No restart needed. Just change this and ownership to mobile!

For those, who likes to use ssh-access: chmod 774 to /var/mobile/Media/Downloads.

I was having this issue with several apps I was trying to update. I deleted all of them from my iPhone and reloaded one at a time from the store without a problem. Mark
