Im having this problem for 3 days now, never got this issue before.
Keep getting the pop up unable... punched retry 10+ times then finnaly works but i noticed it downloads at a horrible speed.
Have u tried downloading songs or podcast from itunes store and books from book store? I keep getting the same problem with them as well unable to download nor play them.
First it was YouTube that stopped working for me keep getting the This movie could not be played pop up, two days later appstore and itunes followed.
I've had my 3GS for almost a year now with any problems at all, and all of a sudden this.. please help.
I'm on 4.1 btw

I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 4 iOS 4.1.

The only suggestion that have received from apple support is to use a different account resulting which obviously will not allow me to redownload those apps that I've paid for unless I pay for them again...

Honestly I don't know what to say... Apple, ARE YOU SERIOUS?

What's even worse is that even those instructions didn't work as I gave them a try with free apps. I've paid 800$ and 3 months down the road I can't use the phone most basic features!

I'm truly speechless.

Same issue since about 4 days ago. iPhone 3GS at firmware 4.0.
Popup tells me to login to the iTunes store on my computer and the app will become available. After logging into the store and pressing 'check for available downloads' in iTunes it finds the apps I tried to install and downloads them to iTunes.
When I go back to the phone and try to install the app again, or any other app, it fails with the same message. I cannot install apps via the App store application.
Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm having the same issue on a corporate network. It's affecting at least 4 users, with varying iOS devices (one iPad2, three iPads) who sync to both macs and PCs. When we are at home, we can download and install Apps. When we are on the WiFi at work, we get the error Unable to Download Application. (app name) will be available for download when you log in to the iTunes Store on your computer. I'm convinced that because this is affecting so many users that it is a web filter or firewall issue on the corporate network, and not a permission issue, iOS version issue, or you-should-just-restore-your-iPad issue. We're getting around it by just adding apps at night from home. The tech support staff will unblock and open whichever ports or pages or files or protocols need to be unblocked. I just need to know which pages to ask them to allow through our filter. My guess is that when I figure this out, it will help a lot of other people with the same problem.
