Symbols

How do you format for symbols like for "degrees" or the symbol for "square foot" (box with a slanted line through it) or "cubic foot" (square foot symbol with raised 3). Thanks

Mac Book Air, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Use a custom format to add these symbols to the ends of your numbers or simply type/add them to the end in if these cells are text. Open up Edit/Special Characters to see all the special characters available. Some are on the keyboard, most are not. The Keyboard viewer (part of the OS, not Numbers) can show you what symbols are on the keyboard.

Degree symbol is option-shift 8 on my keyboard. It is Unicode 00B0.

Sq ft symbol is Unicode 23CD but it does not look as you described. http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/23cd/index.htm . In the Special Characters window, choose to show code tables and scroll down to 23C0. It's the third from the right in that row.

Cubic ft would likely be two characters, the sq ft symbol and a superscripted 3
