Firewire Driver on Powermac G5 dual 2.0

I have installed a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 (audio interface) on my Powermac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2.0 with 3.5 Gb Ram, OSX 10.5.8 - I also have Logic Pro Studio 8 installed on my Mac. When I try to open Mix Control (Saffire program), I get a message of "No Hardware Connected" - Upon opening: About This Mac> More Info> Hardware>Firewire>Device Tree, I see "Unknown Device". Does this mean my firewire ports (two 400 and one 800) are not supported, and need drivers?
The Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 is not acknowledging the firewire connection to the computer (although, the unit powers up from the firewire connection, and Logic Pro Studio is not Seeing the Saffire in the Audio Preferences list. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I purchased a Planet Waves (6 pin) Firewire cable. That allowed the unit to power up from the Firewire connection, prior to that, it wouldn't power up without using the "wall wart" power supply so. the stock firewire cable was defective
I updated to the latest 2.2 version (today) of Saffire, after contacting Focusrite's support. I have uninstalled the application, did the permissions reset in the disk repair (as suggested by foucusrite), re-set my firewire bus (shut down, disconnect power, wait, reconnect, boot up), in short, I have covered a lot of bases in the last few days. Every time i try to start the Saffire Mix control a message of "No Hardware Connected" comes up. Saffire does not show in my Logic Pro Studio * Preferences>Audio> Devices list. Saffire does not show in About this Mac> More info. Hardware>firewire... all I get under the Firewire tree is Unknown Device, etc. The tech from Focusrite said there are issues with combination firewire 400/800 cards, but mine also has a 400/USB on the front that I have the unit plugged into (yes, I have tried both front and rear) and, there are no other firewire units of any sort plugged into the Mac.
I am thinking the unit is defective but I want to exhaust all of the possible fixes before I return it... Any ideas? Any help is sorely needed, and greatly appreciated.

BUMP
I'm having the same problem with my new Macbook Pro.
I have a focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP which i used with my windows machine without any problems. When i try to use it on my mac however, i get nowhere. After installing the (latest) driver, it tells me that the hardware should be recognised by audio options in the System Preferences. But, it's not there. The firewire LED on the interface also does not light up.

The System Profile shows the focusrite is connected to the firewire port but it does not show up as an input or output device on the Hardware>Sound Device list as an option. Only the internal speakers are recognized.

The Sapphire Mix Control shows the Firewire Control Disconnected

Any ideas??

I am having this exact same issue. Nothing is working. I followed the above instructional pages.

It shows up in my Firewire Tree in the Apple Profiler. I've tried to powercycle the firewire bus. No avail.

Nothing shows up in the Midi Audio Utility. I am connected from the Saffire 24 to my computer with a 400 to 800 cable. I am running 10.6.8 on a 3.33GHz 6-Core Mac Pro with 6GB RAM. It only has Firewire 800.

iSight shows up no problem. I have NEVER had an issue before like this. It should work.

Has ANYONE figured this out?

Please help.
