Which DVCPRO HD setting to choose?

Hey,

I shot my film at 30fps and am confused on which DVCPRO HD set-up to choose from. 720p30?? 1080i60?? 1080pA24?? Some advice would be much appreciated.

I should probably add that I am editing directly from a QuickTime file, not from a camera.

Chose a setup that exactly matches your media? Is it 720 or 1080?

Refer back to your camera's manual for the format/framerate/audio bit rate of the video recorded. Use that exact same settings in the log and capture window to how you set up the camera. There should be a preset that matches.

Many cameras have multiple modes to record in, so you have to select the option that matches how you recorded the video.

Honestly... I haven't got a clue. It isn't my camera so I don't have a manual. I've been searching the net too and I can't find this vital piece of info.

Open the file in the QT player and see what it says in the Movie Inspector. Report what it says If this media really is MPEG-1 it's most likely not editable in FCP without being converted.

Since the camera saves to digital card and not tape, I concur with Tom. However, I would use iMovie to process and edit this file as it has a better likelihood of being able to be imported directly off the camera. FCP could do it, but you will have a few more hoops to jump through to get the video usable.

This is standard def DV PAL. Are you sure it doesn't say 720x576? What made you think this was DVCPRO HD?

No, def says 1049 x 576. I didn't know what format it was, DVCPRO HD was the codec I was advised to transfer to on the support site. This was probably my fault as I didn't specify that it was an SD camera... I suppose thought I could maybe transfer my SD footage to HD myself
