I hate Apple Mail

Does anyone else have a problem with Apple mail? I have to constantly call my ISP to get my mail working again. I'm constantly being asked for my password and when I type it in, it says it's not correct. So back to the ISP where they suggest that I change my password. I now have such a long list of passwords that I have to constantly check to see which one is the current one. My isp guy told me that since the inception of OS 10.4 there has been a problem with apple mail and that it is low on their priority list to fix.
Is there another one available that I can get. I'm aware that I will probably have to purchase a new program if there is one.
Thanks folks for any help or suggestions!

Then you shouldn't hate Mail, you should hate your ISP. They've basically told you they know what the problem is, it's their problem and they aren't very motivated to get it fixed for you. That would tick me off big time!

That said, Tom's got you covered for something else you can use to get around your ISP's problem. Thunderbird is good, though I find it quite clunky and unintuitive compared to Mail.

I used that 'subject' in order to get people's attention. It worked. My ISP is Bell Canada and the rep is the one who told me that fixing Apple Mail is low on APPLE'S priority list. I've been using Apple Mail for 12 years and it's only recently that the problem I mentioned is occurring. I use email constantly and so it is a nuisance when it's not working properly.
Thanks for your reply though .

Lainey,

If you don't want to switch applications, call your ISP and ask them to walk you through switching Mail from POP to IMAP. We use Comcast Business Class at the office and often have the same issues you're describing, although Comcast is much better about doing what they can on their end to address the problem.

Some of my colleagues have switched from POP to IMAP and have reported that the failed login dialogue box is no longer an issue.

Ahh, well, I don't think that a Bell Canada phone support rep is qualified to comment on possible bugs in Mail, much less issue statements regarding Apple's intentions. People here are constantly blaming their issues on non-existent bugs. Whether your issue is actually a bug in Mail we can't say without more info, but as Mail has always worked fine for me and many others with many different servers, I'd consider that fairly unlikely.

Try deleting any entries currently stored in your keychain that are related to this email account. Next time around, you would still be prompted for password but hopefully it would work for you that time.

To delete a keychain entry, launch Keychain Access (located in the /Applications/Utilities folder), and select login keychain and passwords category. Locate the appropriate entries and delete them.
