Tascam US-122mkII midi driver conflict with Presonus Firepod?

I've been using my Presonus Firepod firewire as a midi device and audio device without problems for several months. Today I installed a Tascam US-122mkII USB audio/midi device, and now I am unable to connect with midi devices using the Firepod. I am able to connect via midi using the US-122mkII.

When I run Audio Midi Setup both the Firepod and the US-122mkII are shown. The aggregate device lists the Firepod and Built-in Output, but not the US-122mkII. I'm not sure what that means.

Is there any known reason the firewire midi would quit functioning when the USB midi device was installed?

Yeah, I pretty much got your take on it the first time. I'm aware this is a user forum. Please don't waste your time, and mine, repeating yourself.

Let me restate my question:
1. Are there any issues with running FireWire and USB MIDI drivers at the same time?
2. Are there any issues with multiple instances of MIDI drivers? Between the Presonus driver, the original and update installations of the USB driver, and trying three different USB ports--it is possible I've maxed out. I know another unrelated OS has this specific problem.
3. 10.6.5 has been a little bit of an adventure so far, causing kernel panics and erroneously identifying batteries as needing replacement. Have any issues surfaced relating to hardware drivers in general or MIDI drives specifically?
