For those of you with OS 10.4.11 (and cannot upgrade to 10.5) and still struggling trying to get a working "upgrade" to iTunes--You can download 9.2.1 here:

It is true that iTunes 10.2 will NOT install without OS 10.5, and the iTunes upgrade page does not provide working previous versions. iTunes 9.2.1 WILL install and WILL work on older Macs. I had the same problem, found this upgrade ONLY on this buried apple support download page. I installed it and it works great User uploaded file Good luck!

Hi - wondered if someone can point me in the right direction! I have a macbook using Mac OS X version 10.4.11.

Every time i try and connect to itunes store it says that i need to check my internet connection and try again! Obviously my internet connection is working fine and i have done all the updates that are needed for the Mac! This is causing me great frustration as i can not connect to itunes store and can not update my iphone either as it is not picking my phone up when connected to the Mac. I am also having issues getting certain CD's to load onto Itunes as well and would really appreciate some guidance as about to lose the plot with this thing!

So if this isnt just apple scamming more money for stuff people dont want then i'll eat hay with a donkey.

Apple have made it not work so people have to upgrade and pay Apple more money its disgusting.

why does ANY version of iTunes work on ANY version of Windows

And compairing a computer unable to run the latest version of itunes because of an OS to a 10 year old TV not being hi def is a tad extreme, there is absolutely no reason it shouldnt work, other than for Apples monetary gain!

But the point I was making is that there are no versions of iTunes for Windows ME, 98, 95 3.11 etc. No application can be updated to take full advantage of all new developments while remaining compatible with every previous generation of the operating system. There's enough complaint about bloat as it is. I suspect it's not so much about making money from "forcing" users of older systems to upgrade, but rather about keeping the costs of development down and not limiting the evolution of the app simply to maintain backwards compatibility.

ThankYouThankYouThankYou!!

I have an older MacBook (can't remember now - same generation as the first black ones) running 10.4.11 and an iPhone 3GS that's going on 2 yrs. I was experiencing the "computer/iTunes not noticing the phone" issue. I REALLY wanted to re-install iTunes so I could backup my phone - but I'm unemployed so letting go of $29 for a Leopard upgrade 'just' to backup my phone would be more than annoying.

Knowing that it's not uncommon to find links to older versions of software buried in the kb I was prepared to spend the afternoon hunting... but found your post rather quickly. My phone is syncing as I type!

I thank you, sir, for the help! (and my dogs thank you because now we can go for a walk - and, at 65- & 75-lbs, $29 is 3-4 weeks of food for them)

It seems that it is not a good investment paying more for a robust system that will function for years if it will become obsolete anyway. Might as well buy cheaper systems! Strange though the cheap stuff seems to maintain compatibility with the new stuff...pc stuff that is. Why does Apple make such durable hardware if they refuse to keep the new hardware compatible? I am bummed my Iphone4 will not backup on my MacBook 10.4.11 system, but it will on my old pc!
