Not connected, but connected.

iPhoto '11 is telling me that "your computer is not connected to the Internet", when clearly I am. I get the message when I turn on "Info" or go to "Places".

This only happens after leaving iPhoto open, then putting the computer to Sleep. Once I wake it up, it no longer recognizes the connection. (Upon first running the program, everything works fine.)

My only solution is to re-start iPhoto. Which really isn't a solution.

Is there any way around this? Maybe a way to refresh iPhoto, that I'm overlooking?

Thanks.

Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, reboot and try again.

NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

The preference file can get damaged frequently and is the first fix one would try if having problems with iPhoto. Why, I'm not sure but it may be related to hiccups when iPhoto is updating the preference file when it's being shutdown. It's deletion and subsequent automatic replacement is very benign.

The iPhoto preferences will get reset back to the default settings. If you had modified any of them, like the appearance, sharing, etc., you'll have to reset them.

Here are some sites about the pref file:

I had the same problem and followed this other guys suggestion and now iphoto is working fine.

***

In System Preferences > Network > Set Service Order, drag AirPort to the top of the list and OK every window and close SysPref.

Now open iPhoto, it should be working...

Took me a second to find "Set Service Order" You have to click on the "gear" next to the "+" and "-" signs on your list of connection types.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.

(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)

(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)

What's the plist file?

For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
